People<\/a><\/em>, Nicole Polizzi explains that she reacted to her stage 1 cervical cancer diagnosis in a very understandable way.<\/p>\n\u201cI had a breakdown,\u201d she described. \u201cI got to my car and I called my mom hysterically crying, thinking the worst.\u201d<\/p>\n
She revealed that she had ignored her doctor\u2019s advice, putting off getting a new Pap smear for over a year before this appointment.<\/p>\n
That bad news came in February. The good news is that it hasn\u2019t spread.<\/p>\n
The more complex news is that Polizzi will need to undergo a hysterectomy in these coming months. After that, she won\u2019t need any further treatment.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI was scared,\u201d Polizzi admitted.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut you know what?\u201d she continued. \u201cIt\u2019s not the worst case and I can still deal with it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Polizzi affirmed: \u201cI\u2019m gonna be fine.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
A cancer diagnosis is always scary. And a hysterectomy is major surgery.<\/p>\n
However, it sounds like her prognosis is good. She also has the financial means and support system to undergo surgery and recover without upending her life.<\/p>\n
\nThere were warning signs, but she avoided painful screenings<\/h2>\n
Polizzi recalled that, starting about four years ago, she began receiving abnormal Pap smear results.<\/p>\n
Doctors found precancerous cells, which were \u201cnothing crazy,\u201d as she put it.<\/p>\n
Still, her doctors had her come in for screenings six times as often as the normal recommendation \u2014 every six months, rather than every three years.<\/p>\n
But, more recently, Polizzi began putting off the uncomfortable screenings.<\/p>\n
\u201cI ended up not going for like a year and a half because it\u2019s uncomfortable, it\u2019s not fun,\u201d she admitted.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI knew something bad could happen,\u201d Polizzi confessed, \u201cbut instead of dealing with it, I just pretended it wasn\u2019t happening.\u201d<\/p>\n
In 2025, her doctor did not give up. That professional persistence may have saved her life.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy doctor was leaving me a voicemail screaming at me like, \u2018You need to get in here. This is serious. You don\u2019t want it to escalate.\u2019 That\u2019s when I finally went in,\u201d Polizzi described.<\/p>\n
She underwent a colposcopy and a cone biopsy, which found \u201csevere cancer cells.\u201d Fortunately, they found them in time.<\/p>\n
\u201cEven though I\u2019m done having kids, the thought of not being able to really upset me,\u201d Polizzi said of her upcoming colonoscopy. \u201cIt messes with you a little bit.\u201d<\/p>\n
Still, she affirmed: \u201cI have a ton of people that are here for me and they love me.\u201d They\u2019ll support her through this journey, including her recovery.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
