Tim<\/strong> and Maria Shriver<\/span><\/a><\/strong> are addressing their strained relationship with U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cI think people all have differences in every family so I think we were raised on family loyalty,\u201d Maria, 70, shared with People<\/i><\/span><\/a> in an interview published on Wednesday, April 22. \u201cDaddy [Sargent Shriver<\/strong>] brought people of different faiths to the table, different political parties, different skin colors and was always like, that<\/i> is the table.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tim, 66, has found himself being an outspoken critic of cousin RFK Jr. after he ended his 2024 presidential campaign and endorsed president Donald Trump<\/strong>, going on to serve in his cabinet while espousing anti-vaccine conspiracy theories and making disparaging comments about children with autism.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese are kids who will never pay taxes. They\u2019ll never hold a job,\u201d Kennedy, 72, claimed in an April 2025 press conference. \u201cThey\u2019ll never play baseball. They\u2019ll never write a poem. They\u2019ll never go out on a date.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tCheryl Hines is opening up about the damaged relationships within the Kennedy family. After some family members publicly criticized Robert F. Kennedy Jr. after he endorsed President Donald Trump, Hines, 60, shared a glimpse into how her husband navigates his relatives. \u201cWell, it\u2019s a big family. There are a lot of Kennedys and, you know, [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

(Autism, a neurodevelopmental condition, exists on a spectrum, and many people diagnosed with autism live happy, normal lives who hold down jobs, pay taxes, get married and have children.)<\/p>\n

After Tim and his younger brother, Anthony Shriver<\/strong>, penned an open letter on Best Buddies\u2019 website<\/span><\/a> celebrating \u201cthe gifts of people with autism,\u201d the Special Olympics chairman seemingly acknowledged how different \u2014 and potentially harmful \u2014 political ideologies can lead to strained relationships.<\/p>\n

\u201cMany of us are trying as best we can to hold fast to the idea that, even within our own family, sometimes the hardest place to treat people with dignity is at your own dinner table and so we\u2019re working hard on that,\u201d Tim shared in a new interview with People<\/i>. \u201cAnd like a lot of families, I think we\u2019re a work in progress.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tWeeks after Caroline Kennedy\u2019s daughter, Tatiana Schlossberg, died after a brief cancer battle, her cousin Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is giving insight into the family members\u2019 estranged relationship. \u201cEverybody\u2019s praying for them,\u201d the U.S. secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) told People of his family while attending the Starry Night Gala in Palm Desert, [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In addition to their cousin, Tim and Maria have been outspoken critics<\/span><\/a> of Trump, 79, especially after he unceremoniously decided to rename the Kennedy Center. In Sargent\u2019s new posthumous book<\/a>, We Called It a War: Lessons Learned from the Fight to End Poverty<\/i>, Tim and Maria\u2019s late father provides lessons on dealing with political differences.<\/p>\n

According to two of the Shriver siblings, the book\u2019s release comes at an appropriate time.<\/p>\n
