The \u2018A Moment Like This\u2019 singer, 41, filed for divorce from her 46-year-old former partner in June 2020 after nearly seven years of marriage \u2013 which sparked a bitter split battle \u2013 and she said she and Brandon had a \u201ctext exchange\u201d before the release of her new record, which came out on Friday. (23.06.23) <\/p>\n
She told \u2018Today\u2019: \u201cI don\u2019t even remember why or how it happened, but I was like, \u2018Hey, I didn\u2019t just diminish us down to one (thing).\u2019<\/p>\n
\u201cYou know what I\u2019m saying? It\u2019s all in there, the ride. The beauty is in there, as well. Now there\u2019s a lot of pain, but that\u2019s what happens for all of us.\u201d<\/p>\n
Kelly acknowledged Brandon probably won\u2019t be listening to the album, which is said to be scathing about their relationship, adding: \u201cIt\u2019s very personal. And I\u2019ve always released personal music \u2013 I think I\u2019m that kind of writer in general, everybody knows that. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cI think when you have kids\u2026 you kind of debate, \u2018What am I going to do here?\u2019 So I was very selective about the songs I picked for the album.\u201d <\/p>\n
\nAhead of the release of the record, Kelly admitted she was \u201clonely\u201d after her divorce from Brandon. <\/p>\n
\nShe added she is now happy to be moving her self-titled talk show to New York after finding life in Los Angeles isolating following the break-up, especially during the pandemic. <\/p>\n
\nReferencing her divorce, she also said on the \u2018Today\u2019 show: \u201cI think Covid pointed out a lot of things. A lot of us didn\u2019t make it relationship-wise. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cAlso it just proved I\u2019ve never really liked living in LA.\u201d <\/p>\n
\nShe added she felt like LA was \u201cnever her thing\u201d in the two decades she has lived in the city, and said: \u201cI never wanted to live there in the first place. It was just me and my kids all the way on that coast. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cAll my family lives on this coast. So it just got lonely.\u201d <\/p>\n
\n\u201cI\u2019m lonely there. Not as in, like, \u2018I need a boyfriend\u2019 kind of thing. Lonely as in, like, you miss your family, you miss just having any family, or that kind of relationship.\u201d <\/p>\n
\nKelly and Brandon did not reach a settlement until two years after she filed for divorce. <\/p>\n
\nThe singer told host Glennon Doyle, 47, on the \u2018We Can do Hard Things\u2019 podcast about how she felt better after her marriage split: \u201cI can say that after (the divorce) I\u2019m a far better mother. \u201cBecause I think when you\u2019re honest with yourself, you\u2019re able to be honest with others.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
