The Devil Wears Prada 2 actress has received the publication’s annual honour, but in an accompanying interview, the 43-year-old star admitted she spent “decades” feeling awkward about herself.<\/p>\n
Asked if she ever had an awkward phase, she told the magazine: “For decades \u2014 decades. I think I had the longest unbroken awkward phase in Hollywood. Actually, I think mine extended until my late 30s.<\/p>\n
“Pretty sure I knew because I was inside of it. I mean, you have your normal awkward phase when you\u2019re a teenager. I just didn\u2019t feel like I could get comfortable anywhere, you know? I couldn\u2019t quite find my footing.<\/p>\n
“When I was a kid, I found talking really difficult. So I had a bit of stress and anxiety around just, like, communicating.”<\/p>\n
\nAnd Anne also admitted she had had “multiple” beauty disasters over the years, largely because she didn’t quite understand the “language”.<\/p>\n
\nAsked about her beauty disasters, she said: “Multiple. I didn\u2019t understand that there\u2019s a whole language when it comes to beauty. For about 10 years I was asking for my hair to be done a certain way, and it never went the way I wanted. And then finally I showed someone a picture.<\/p>\n
\n“I had been asking for texture, and I meant that I wanted, like, loose soft waves, and it took me a very long time to figure that out. Now I always show up with reference images.”<\/p>\n
\nAnne has five movies – Mother Mary, The Devil Wears Prada 2, The Odyssey, The End of Oak Street and Verity – due for release this year and she praised her husband Adam Shulman for being so supportive.<\/p>\n
\nShe said: “He supports me completely. This year in particular was unusual. He and I both know that it\u2019s probably never going to happen like this again. And the way he stepped up, I mean, in every possible way, he\u2019s the most extraordinary person I\u2019ve ever met.<\/p>\n
\n“I\u2019m so lucky that he\u2019s my partner that I spend my life with. If I didn\u2019t know that before this past year, I think I really know it now because with absolutely everything he\u2019s just, he\u2019s on it. He holds it down.<\/p>\n
\n“I hope that doesn\u2019t sound like I\u2019m bragging, but he\u2019s a dream partner to me.”<\/p>\n
\nThe Princess Diaries star is grateful she and 45-year-old Adam – who are parents to sons Jonathan, 10, and six-year-old Jack – “work well together”.<\/p>\n
\nShe gushed: “It\u2019s one thing to have dreams. It\u2019s another thing to have somebody who helps you achieve them. I absolutely would not be able to have achieved what I\u2019ve done without my husband.”<\/p>\n
