On April 16, 1991, Temple of the Dog released a self-titled album that was produced as a tribute to Mother Love Bone’s Andrew Wood, who had passed away the year before from a heroin overdose.<\/p>\n

Chris Cornell wanted to make music as a form of catharsis and expression, and got friends Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament on board. They hadn’t even planned for an album.<\/p>\n

Unknown singer Eddie Vedder had flown into town to audition for Pearl Jam, but was in rehearsals for Temple of the Dog the week before. He ended up singing half of Hunger Strike, which turned out to be a massive hit.<\/p>\n
