On the X post in question, Kim Petras has been up to more than reaching out to Mamdani, who last year declared<\/a> his affinity for the pop star\u2019s music. She\u2019s also been pre-promoting Detour<\/em>, which had been trapped in limbo due to a dispute with her label<\/a>, Republic Records. In addition to teasing the album\u2019s first single \u201cNeed for Speed,\u201d which will drop this Wednesday, she affirmed that Detour<\/em> now has a release date\u2014she wouldn\u2019t tell me what it is, but said that, pun intended, we\u2019re now back on track.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s my pride and joy,\u201d Petras says of the album. \u201cI really shed, I think, a lot of my previous styles. I wanted to break all the rules and reinvent myself and work with exciting artists that I love, and be rebellious against traditional pop and how clean my vocals were.\u201d<\/p>\n Petras, I\u2019d say, created some of the most delicious high-energy, infectious bubblegum pop of the past decade. She\u2019s ready to go deeper. Detour<\/em> is \u201cwhat I think the future of music sounds like, rather than how I fit into the current mainstream climate.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
