Saturday Night Live alum Pete Davidson<\/a> is not in the Lorne Michaels documentary because of scheduling conflicts and a packed interview line-up.<\/p>\n

Former Saturday Night Live cast member Pete Davidson<\/p>\n

Lorne tells how the TV producer became a comedy legend – whom Pete regards as a mentor and father figure – and features chats with lots of former stars of the NBC sketch comedy series, including Mike Myers, 62, Chris Rock<\/a>, 61, Tina Fey, 55, and 52-year-old Kristen Wiig.<\/p>\n

Director Morgan Neville, 58, explained why 32-year-old Pete – a show cast member from 2014 until 2022 – was absent in an interview with People.<\/p>\n

He said: “I interviewed so many people for the film, and at a certain point, after I’d interviewed [John] Mulaney and he had said everything he had said, I just didn’t know where we were gonna put more voices. <\/p>\n

“It just felt like it was full, you know?”<\/p>\n

\nMorgan said many other Saturday Night Live entertainers were also ready to share their stories about Lorne.<\/p>\n

\nHe added: “That was the hard part. It was like an embarrassment of riches, that you could interview a thousand people about Lorne Michaels. So many people have stories.”<\/p>\n

\nUltimately, Morgan’s main focus was not on the cast members but on Lorne himself.<\/p>\n

\nHe said: “I was just trying to distill his essence into a film. A lot of those stories are not about Lorne, they’re about those people.”<\/p>\n

\n“I just wanted to make sure I was staying on Lorne\u2019s story and not other people’s stories because there are stories everywhere, and it’s huge. There are thousand-page books about the show. <\/p>\n

\n“So, it’s really just trying to get that essence of what makes him tick that I was just zeroed in on.”<\/p>\n

\nPete left Saturday Night Live in 2022, but returned as a guest host the following year.<\/p>\n

\nHowever, he would make a comeback as a cast member if Lorne asked him to.<\/p>\n

\nIn November 2025, Pete told People magazine: “I’d do anything for Lorne.<\/p>\n

\n“I had a great time hosting last time, and anytime you get that call, it’s an honour and a privilege.<\/p>\n

\n“It’s always relevant, it’s a hot show. People look forward to it, and the cast is great.<\/p>\n

\n“I owe that guy my life. He jump-started everything. So I’d do anything for Lorne, and he knows that.”<\/p>\n
