Bruce Springsteen has been critical of Donald Trump<\/p>\n
The US president has been locked in a war of words with the Born in the USA hitmaker after the veteran rocker repeatedly criticised his administration on stage, and while he recently branded the musician a a “dried up prune” , Bruce’s former drummer, Vini ‘Mad Dog’ Lopez, has revealed the former Apprentice star once held a very different viewpoint.<\/p>\n
Vini met Trump at his golf course in Bedminster, New Jersey when he was working as a caddy and remembered his interaction with the 79-year-old business mogul as warm.<\/p>\n
The former golf caddy told the California Post newspaper: \u201cHe was very nice to me. He was very inquisitive and introduced me to Melania.”<\/p>\n
As Trump left the course, he asked Vini to do him a “big favour”.<\/p>\n
\nVini claimed he said: “Tell Bruce I\u2019m his biggest fan.”<\/p>\n
\nThe 77-year-old musician – who was an original member of The E Street Band – thinks Bruce should show more respect to the president and stop attacking him on stage.<\/p>\n
\nHe said: \u201cYou gotta have respect for the president.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cTrump is the president of the United States \u2014 everyone should have respect for him.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cHe is the president of the United States. And if I was standing there talking to him, I would have mucho respect for the man. I wouldn\u2019t talk to him about anything that\u2019s going on [politically].”<\/p>\n
\nVini stressed he isn’t opposed to Bruce’s statements but doesn’t want to see politics tear the country apart.<\/p>\n
\nHe said: \u201cI am not against what Bruce is saying now.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cMaybe when I was 20, I was a little more extreme, but I\u2019m 77 now, so the extremities are gone.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cIt\u2019s so divided, the political part. It\u2019s a tough one on me.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nAnd the veteran musician insisted his own current group, The Wonderful Winos, are deliberately non-political.<\/p>\n
\nHe said: \u201cMy band, whatever we think, we don\u2019t go there in our music.”<\/p>\n
\nDespite his comments, Vini insisted he and Bruce – who he played with for six years before parting ways because he was “too jazzy” – are on “perfect” times and still in occasional contact.<\/p>\n
\nHe said: \u201cIf he wants me to do something, he\u2019ll call me.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cSometimes it\u2019s just because he hasn\u2019t seen me for a while. And he\u2019ll call me and say. \u2018Hey, come around here.\u2019 \u201d <\/p>\n
\n\u201cAnd most of the time it\u2019s terrible when I call him because it\u2019s when one of our crew died and he doesn\u2019t know that. That\u2019s happening more and more.\u201d<\/p>\n
