I welcome all cheers and yodels from here on out.\u201d<\/p>\n Original story continues below:<\/i><\/p>\n While headlining the 2026 Coachella Music & Arts Festival<\/span><\/a>, singer Sabrina Carpenter<\/b><\/a>\u00a0sparked backlash when she confused a fan\u2019s cultural cry for a \u201cweird\u201d yodel.<\/p>\n In the middle of Carpenter\u2019s Friday, April 11, set, one fan let out a <\/span>zaghrouta<\/i> chant. (A <\/span>zaghrouta <\/i>cheer <\/i>is commonly bellowed by women in Arab-speaking communities to express overwhelming joy.) Carpenter, 26, confused the chant for a \u201cyodel.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIs that what you\u2019re doing? I don\u2019t like it,\u201d Carpenter said, according to social media footage<\/span><\/a>. After the fan attempted to explain the zaghrouta, <\/i>the singer added, <\/span>\u201cThat\u2019s your culture? Yodeling? Is this Burning Man? This is weird.\u201d<\/p>\n Following Carpenter\u2019s set, several social media users condemned the pop star\u2019s now-viral reaction.<\/p>\n \u201cSabrina saying that she doesn\u2019t like a cultural arabic cheer. This is so insensitive and islamophobic,\u201d one social media user wrote via X on Friday. \u201cI am very disappointed in her.\u201d<\/p>\n Another fan tweeted, \u201cSabrina Carpenter mocking a zaghrouta<\/i> as \u2018yodeling\u2019 after being educated on its culture is so nasty. Us Weekly <\/i>has reached out to reps for the Grammy winner for comment.<\/p>\n Carpenter, who made her Coachella debut<\/span><\/a> in 2024, is no stranger to controversy. Her most recent album, Man\u2019s Best Friend<\/i>, raised eyebrows for its hypersexualized lyrics and video concepts.
