And he is!<\/p>\n<p>But he, alongside Jeff Timmons, Justin Jeffre, and Drew Lachey (his brother), comprised the boy band, 98 Degrees.<\/p>\n<p>And, when they first went on tour in 1999, they had a helpful yet \u201cshady\u201d guide. Just in case.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Boy Band Confidential | Official Trailer | ID\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Mdqk-sK7038?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThis is going to sound super shady,\u201d Lachey admits, \u201cbut when we first went out, I remember our first tour, someone at the label gave us a book.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He continued: \u201cAnd it was the age of consent in every state in the country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>(As appalling as <em>different laws in different countries<\/em> already is in our world, <em>different laws in different states<\/em> is somehow even worse. Knowing the minimum age that someone can be for a legal hookup in 50 states and beyond is a predator\u2019s mindset, even if no laws are broken.)<\/p>\n<p>However, the boy band members ages were 21 at the youngest and 24 at the oldest in 1999.<\/p>\n<p>Most of the time, 21-year-olds do not really end up socializing in person with anyone under 18. (And this applies to other situations, like workplaces, where minors and adults may share spaces.)<\/p>\n<p>People who are just a few years apart dating, when one is an adult and another is a minor, is not inherently predatory.
