Bryan Cranston<\/a> believes America is in the midst of a “post-truth era”.<\/p>\n

Bryan Cranston is starring on stage<\/p>\n

The 70-year-old actor agrees that no-one can be wrong in their judgement of art, but he’s also sounded a note of caution for modern audiences.<\/p>\n

Bryan – who is currently starring in a production of Arthur Miller’s 1947 drama All My Sons – told Sky News: “Post-truth era, it makes me shiver. But it’s true that the perception of the truth is even more powerful than the truth itself. And that’s a scary thing.”<\/p>\n

Bryan plays the part of Joseph Keller in the play and he admits that there’s a lot of his own father in his portrayal of the character.<\/p>\n

He shared: “I remember taking my father to therapy once. And he recited back to me and my siblings. We thought this was a great breakthrough [that we’d be] able to finally talk about his past and the war.<\/p>\n

\n“It wasn’t that way. He was too closed down. He quoted Oedipus. I don’t think he realised it, but he did. He said: ‘I’d rather stick needles in my eyes than go through that again.’ It’s like, that’s how painful it was.”<\/p>\n

\nAsked if his dad would be able to recognise himself in the character, Bryan replied: “I hope that he would be able to see it. But you know, it’s easier to see other people in someone else than it is yourself.”<\/p>\n

\nMeanwhile, Bryan recently insisted that comedy is an “essential” part of life.<\/p>\n

\nThe actor observed that comedy has become particularly important because there’s so much negativity in the world at the moment.<\/p>\n

\nHe told the Guardian newspaper: “It’s not even important; it’s essential. Because it’s a break from the bombardment of nonstop information. People who have the news on 24 hours a day in their homes, I don’t think they realise the damage they’re doing. You might as well make a house full of asbestos or just have radiation constantly emitting through your house.”<\/p>\n
