<\/em>on Friday, April 3.<\/p>\n\u201cThe plan was not only to speak the truth but to also show that same truth over and over again through the presentation of actual evidence,\u201d the statement alleged.<\/p>\n
\u201cNeither Justin Baldoni, Jamey Heath, nor any of the other defendants have engaged in the sexual harassment of Blake Lively,\u201d Freedman then claimed.<\/p>\n
\u201cDespite our clients being accused of DARVO (Deny, Attack, Reverse Victim and Offender) in defending these claims and despite our client being referred to in writing as a predator,\u201d the statement continued.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat I said, on behalf of our client\u2019s day one and every day since then is true,\u201d Freedman alleged. \u201cOur clients are very good people who have not engaged in this sexual harassment as alleged.\u201d<\/p>\nSmiling, Blake Lively watches the \u2018Late Night\u2019 audience\u2019s reaction. He then expressed: \u201cIt is gratifying to see that the court\u2019s ruling confirms what the legal team believed from day one.\u201d<\/p>\n
Just to be clear, the court\u2019s ruling has confirmed that Lively was an independent contractor, and that It Ends With Us<\/em> did not film in California. <\/p>\nMeanwhile, Lively\u2019s attorney, Sigrid McCawley, said that the case \u201chas always been and will remain focused on the devastating retaliation and the extraordinary steps the defendants took to destroy Blake Lively\u2019s reputation.\u201d<\/p>\n
McCawley also emphasized: \u201cSexual harassment isn\u2019t going forward, not because the defendants did nothing wrong, but because the court determined Blake Lively was an independent contractor, not an employee.\u201d<\/p>\nOn CBS Mornings, Justin Baldoni spoke about his then-upcoming film, \u2018It Ends With Us.\u2019 (Image Credit: CBS)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\nThis is an indictment of our legal system<\/h2>\n As many on social media are pointing out, this ruling has more to do with our legal system than it does with any facts of the case \u2014 in Baldoni\u2019s favor or in Lively\u2019s.<\/p>\n
Federal Title VII protections for employees allow them to sue over sexual harassment. <\/p>\n
But an independent contractor \u2014 which can mean anything from someone hired to a one-time job to someone who\u2019s effectively a full-time employee without the benefits \u2014 has no such recourse.<\/p>\n
This, like the lines on a map that differentiate California from New Jersey, is a technicality. It\u2019s not a fact of the case. It\u2019s not justice.<\/p>\n
If Baldoni really wants to prove his alleged innocence, this isn\u2019t doing it. In the eyes of the public \u2014 at least, anyone reading past a headline \u2014 this may be as much of a setback for him as it is for Lively.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
