The golf icon, 50, was arrested after his SUV overturned while attempting to overtake another vehicle at speed, with officers from the Martin County Sheriff\u2019s Office later finding two opioid pills in his possession. <\/p>\n
Newly released police footage has now shown Tiger appearing lethargic, unsteady and sweating at the roadside, before being transported to jail in a 17-minute clip in which he yawns, hiccups and briefly falls asleep. <\/p>\n
According to an arrest affidavit, Tiger told officers he had been distracted by his phone while driving, and subsequent searches revealed pills marked \u201cM367,\u201d identified as hydrocodone \u2013 a medication used to treat severe pain and described by the National Institute on Drug Abuse as \u201chighly addictive\u201d.<\/p>\n
Tiger said in the arrest footage: \u201cI looked down at my phone, and all of a sudden… boom!\u201d<\/p>\n
\nHe added: \u201cYeah, yeah,\u201d when asked by an officer if he was comfortable while kneeling on the grass verge during medical checks.<\/p>\n
\nMartin County Sheriff John Budensiek said: \u201cHe had been traveling at \u2018high speeds\u2019 on a residential road and after the crash showed \u2018signs of impairment\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nHe added: \u201c(Tiger is) cooperative, but he\u2019s not trying to incriminate himself.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nThe affidavit states Tiger appeared \u201climping and stumbling\u201d during a field sobriety test and was deemed unfit to drive. <\/p>\n
\nOfficers reported his eyes were \u201cbloodshot and glassy\u201d and his pupils \u201cextremely dilated\u201d. <\/p>\n
\nWhen asked if he was taking prescription medication, Tiger said: \u201cI take a few.\u201d <\/p>\n
\nHe agreed to a breathalyser test, which showed no presence of alcohol, but refused to provide a urine sample.<\/p>\n
\nAuthorities said the crash occurred when Tiger attempted to pass a truck towing a pressure cleaner trailer on a two-lane road. The vehicle swerved, clipped the trailer and rolled onto its side, with Tiger exiting the vehicle afterwards. <\/p>\n
\nHe has been charged with driving under the influence, property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test.<\/p>\n
\nThe incident marks the latest in a series of crashes involving Tiger, including a 2021 accident that resulted in serious leg and ankle injuries. <\/p>\n
\nIt is also the second time he has been arrested for a DUI not linked to alcohol, following a 2017 incident in which he was found asleep at the wheel.<\/p>\n
\nUS president Donald Trump, 79, said about the incident: \u201cI feel so badly. He\u2019s got some difficulty. Very close friend of mine. He\u2019s an amazing person. Amazing man. But, some difficulty.\u201d<\/p>\n
