Because we basically know the rest.<\/p>\n<p>His death has been ruled a homicide. This was only the beginning of a series of tragedies that claimed his life.<span class=\"image-caption-credit\"> (Photo Credit: Buffalo Police Department)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-nurul-amin-shah-alam-should-be-alive-today\">Nurul Amin Shah Alam should be alive today<\/h2>\n<p>On February 15, 2025, Buffalo police arrested Mr. Alam after what appeared to be a misunderstanding.<\/p>\n<p>Alam was a Rohingya refugee with legal status in the US. He used a cane to walk, and spoke very little English.<\/p>\n<p>Following an incident where he walked while carrying a pair of poles, police tasered him and tackled him to the ground when he did not understand or respond to their commands. They charged him with assault.<\/p>\n<p>He spent the next year in the Eerie County Holding Center. Reports say that he agreed to a plea deal that would make him ineligible for removal and deportation.<\/p>\n<p>On February 19, 2026, Buffalo Police handed him over to Customs and Border Patrol. <\/p>\n<p>CBP claims that Mr. Alam voluntarily accepted a \u201ccourtesy ride\u201d to a closed Tim Hortons (a coffee shop chain). This seems like an odd story, on multiple levels.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Near-blind refugee found dead after US Border Patrol release\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/yZzXLyR2fOk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>CBP claims that they dropped Mr. Alam off at a \u201csafe, warm location.\u201d He was, however, unable to enter the locked building, and seemingly had no means of contacting his family.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, his family had no idea where to find him. CBP was, of course, no help.<\/p>\n<p>His family and their attorney began the search, and filed a missing persons report.<\/p>\n<p>On February 24, a woman\u2019s 911 call indicated an unmoving man on her street \u2014 a man who had been alive and moving earlier that afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Alam\u2019s body was positively identified on February 25. That is a homicide.<\/p>\n<p>However, homicide is also a legal classification \u2014 which is outside of the ME\u2019s purview.<\/p>\n<p>It is up to the office of the district attorney to determine whether criminal charges will be filed \u2014 and against whom.<\/p>\n<p>There was an entire chain of custody of people who appear to have brought about Mr. Alam\u2019s death. Certainly, it was one of many issues that Congress brought up with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehollywoodgossip.com\/2026\/03\/donald-trump-fires-kristi-noem-amid-endless-controversies-in-deparment-of-homeland-security\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">disgraced former Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Realistically, it\u2019s unlikely that law enforcement in New York can go after Donald Trump and Stephen Miller for orchestrating this cruel ethnic cleansing campaign. That and similar \u201cNuremberg 2\u201d tasks will fall to federal authorities.<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_2-0\">But, one hopes, authorities will at least bring some of the monsters behind Mr. Alam\u2019s homicide to justice.
