The men of Shondaland \u2014 Shonda Rhimes<\/strong><\/a>\u2019 TV production company \u2014 have been making viewers swoon since Grey\u2019s Anatomy<\/em><\/a> premiered in 2005.<\/p>\n Patrick Dempsey<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 whose character on the medical drama, Dr. Derek Shepherd, earned the nickname \u201cMcDreamy\u201d \u2014 has said that his kids aren\u2019t impressed by his heartthrob status<\/a>. Dempsey shares three children with his wife, Jillian Fink<\/strong><\/a>: daughter Talula, born in 2002, and twin boys<\/a> Sullivan and Darby, born in 2007.<\/p>\n \u201cOh, yeah, they make fun of me,\u201d the Maine native told Entertainment Tonight<\/em> in August 2019, four years after he left the series<\/a>. \u201cThey don\u2019t let me take my stuff too seriously, which is good.\u201d<\/p>\n Tony Goldwyn<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 who played President Fitzgerald \u201cFitz\u201d Thomas Grant III on Scandal<\/em><\/a> \u2014 is well aware that good-looking leading men are a calling card of every Shondaland series<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cOh, yeah. Shonda has a whole thing she teases us about,\u201d the Divergent<\/em> actor told The Cut<\/em><\/a> in February 2016. \u201cShe says in Shondaland, in the love scenes, the boys have to be the ones to take their clothes off,<\/a> and the women, the girls can do whatever they want.\u201d<\/p>\n While speaking with Vanity Fair<\/em><\/a> in April 2021 about her Netflix show Bridgerton<\/em><\/a>, Rhimes said that she wanted to focus on the feminine perspective in the TV adaptation of Julia Quinn<\/strong><\/a>\u2018s novels.<\/p>\n \u201cWhat I liked was the ability to explore things from a woman\u2019s point of view<\/a>. I wanted the female gaze happening in the books to happen on television,\u201d she told the outlet.<\/p>\n Reg\u00e9-Jean Page<\/strong><\/a>, who starred as Simon Basset in season 1 of the historical-romance series, decided to leave the show<\/a> after its acclaimed debut. Rhimes told Vanity Fair<\/em> that although Page is \u201camazing,\u201d she and her business partner, Betsy Beers<\/strong>, are well-versed in finding dashing leading men<\/a> to replace outgoing cast members.<\/p>\n \u201cThat\u2019s our job and something that Betsy and I have been doing since \u2014 well, God, has it been 20 years now? \u2014 is finding guys. I mean, hopefully ladies too, but finding men that our audiences find devastatingly attractive<\/a>, and they become incredibly overly attached to, and they get enraged about when we move them about in any way,\u201d the showrunner said.<\/p>\n Season 2 of the period drama focused on Lord Anthony Bridgerton, played by Jonathan Bailey<\/strong><\/a>, whose search for love was a steamy one. The England native defended the show\u2019s focus on sex and the interior lives of women during a February 2022 conversation with Entertainment Weekly<\/em>.<\/p>\n \u201cThere\u2019s so many people who will go, \u2018Oh, yeah, Bonkerton.\u2019 But the female gaze is so important<\/a> because there are many ways people communicate by sex, and what sex means and what your body means to someone else. It\u2019s important that there\u2019s an inversion of sexuality and how people are exploited in the storytelling of sex,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n
