Peter Alexander <\/b>is leaving Saturday Today<\/a> <\/i>after nearly two decades with NBC.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis morning I am bursting with pride and with gratitude. I\u2019ve had the most incredible experience over 22 years with NBC News,\u201d Alexander, 49, said during the Saturday, March 28, broadcast<\/span><\/a>. \u201cI could not be more grateful for \u2026 the leaders and mentors here who have believed in me and given me more opportunities than I ever dreamed of.\u201d<\/p>\n

Alexander, who transitioned to cohosting Saturday Today <\/i>in 2018, decided to leave his post<\/a> to spend more time with his family.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is literally so fun, I mean, what a gig!\u201d he quipped. \u201cBut, because I live in Washington [D.C.], it\u2019s also a trek. I\u2019ve been away from my home more than 80 nights in the last seven months, [and] more than 200 Friday nights away from my family in the last seven years.\u201d<\/p>\n

Alexander and his wife, Alison Starling<\/b>, share daughters Ava, 12, and Emma, 10<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, in this limited window before my daughters lose interest in hanging out with me [and] it\u2019s already happened quick, I\u2019m eager to carve out a better balance between my personal and professional lives,\u201d Alexander noted on Saturday. \u201c[I want] to challenge myself with something new. I\u2019m excited because I was taught, \u2018Family first, the rest is details.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued, addressing the Today <\/i>audience, \u201cI just want to be clear: Thank you for your trust and your confidence.\u201d<\/p>\n

Alexander further thanked NBC News for \u201cundoubtedly the most exciting years\u201d of his TV journalism career.<\/p>\n

Alexander\u2019s cohost Laura Jarrett <\/b>held back tears after hearing his announcement.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeter, we love you, we are going to miss you,\u201d Jarrett, 42, responded to her colleague\u2019s news. \u201cWe have laughed so hard we want to cry with you, we have learned from you and we are not the only ones.\u201d<\/p>\n
