Republicans suffered a loss in an area closely associated with Donald Trump<\/strong><\/a> this week. <\/p>\n On Tuesday (March 24), the Associated Press<\/a> reported that Democrat Emily Gregory<\/strong> would emerge victorious in a special election for Florida House District 87, which is the district where the 79-year-old president\u2019s Mar-a-Lago is located. <\/p>\n Gregory<\/strong> was ahead by more than 2 percentage points in the vote tally, besting Republican candidate Jon Maples<\/strong> to assume the seat in the Florida House of Representatives that was previously held by Republican Mike Caruso<\/strong>. The district went strongly to Republicans in 2024, with Caruso <\/strong>securing the win by by 19 points. <\/p>\n Her win comes after Trump voted in the election by mail, a move that sparked controversy as he has recently lambasted mail-in voting. <\/p>\n Keep reading to find out more\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n This week, CNN <\/a>reported that the president cast his ballot in the election by mail, citing Palm Beach County records.<\/p>\n The news broke as he is attempting to pass a restrictive voting bill called the SAVE Act, which would make it more difficult for Americans to use mail-in ballots. <\/p>\n He slammed the voting method on Monday (March 23) while speaking in Memphis, Tenn. <\/p>\n \u201cYou know, brought to my attention today that we\u2019re the only country that does mail-in voting,\u201d he said at a round-table discussion, per CNN. \u201cMail-in voting means mail-in cheating. I call it mail-in cheating, and we got to do something about it all.\u201d<\/p>\n Contacted by Just Jared<\/strong>, the White House responded via spokeswoman Oliva Wales<\/strong>. <\/p>\n \u201cAs President Trump has said, the SAVE America Act has commonsense exceptions for Americans to use mail-in ballots for illness, disability, military, or travel \u2013 but universal mail-in voting should not be allowed because it\u2019s highly susceptible to fraud,\u201d Wales <\/strong>said.<\/p>\n She continued: \u201cAs everyone knows, the President is a resident of Palm Beach and participates in Florida elections, but he obviously primarily lives at the White House in Washington, D.C. This is a non-story.\u201d<\/p>\n Citing a report by Brookings Institution, AP<\/a> reported that instances of vote fraud in mail-in ballots was estimated to be extremely low, occurring in 0.000043%. This translates to four instances of fraud out of every 10 million mail-in votes, the outlet reported.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
