For generations, Ida Huddleston and her family have owned a farm in northern Kentucky. And they\u2019ve turned down at least one multimillion-dollar offer to preserve it.<\/p>\n
Last year, a \u201cmajor artificial intelligence company\u201d offered them $26 million to sell part of their farm for a proposed data center, according to a recent report from WKRC<\/a>. Huddleston and her family declined, saying they didn\u2019t want a data center built near them or on any of their 1,200 acres of farmland outside Maysville, Kentucky.<\/p>\n \u201cThey call us old stupid farmers, you know, but we\u2019re not,\u201d Huddleston, who is 82, told Local 12 WKRC. \u201cWe know whenever our food is disappearing, our lands are disappearing, and we don\u2019t have any water \u2014 and that poison. Well, we know we\u2019ve had it,\u201d apparently referring to recent water shortages and ground poisoning<\/a> that\u2019s been widely reported<\/a> in land near data centers<\/a>.<\/p>\n \n
