While some fans may opt for social media quizzes or binge-watching a new show, others choose to break out their go-to romantic comedies during a long weekend [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2>\u2018Down With Love\u2019 (2003)<\/h2>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Down With Love (2003) Trailer #1 | Movieclips Classic Trailers\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2wzS37O7m-E?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>In this homage to \u201cno-sex sex comedies\u201d from the early 1960s, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrities\/renee-zellweger\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Ren\u00e9e Zellweger<\/strong><\/a> stars as Barbara Novak, an aspiring author who touches down in New York City to promote her anti-romance, how-to book <em>Down with Love.<\/em> When she arrives at Banner Publishing, the executives don\u2019t appreciate the book\u2019s subject matter, and when Barbara attempts to use playboy author Catcher Block (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrities\/ewan-mcgregor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Ewan McGregor<\/strong><\/a>) to help her out, he rebuffs her. Instead, Barbara gets an unexpected boost from a <strong>Judy Garland<\/strong> song, and sales skyrocket. Angering Catcher, he decides to trick Barbara into falling in love with him to prove the fallacy behind her success.<\/p>\n<p>Before <strong>Peyton Reed<\/strong> directed the\u00a0<em>Ant-Man<\/em> movies for the MCU, he helmed this vastly underappreciated romantic comedy pastiche that is enlivened by screwball humor and a visually ravishing, energetic style. Though <em>Down with Love<\/em> whiffed with critics and audiences at the time, the movie has since developed a cult following and critical reappraisal for its smart subversion of rom-com tropes. It doesn\u2019t hurt that both McGregor and Zellweger are also absolutely dazzling, putting on their best campy \u201960s Hollywood acting performance like they were born for it.<\/p>\n<h2>\u2018Stardust\u2019 (2007)<\/h2>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Stardust (2007) Trailer #1 | Movieclips Classic Trailers\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/-wwv427DAvA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>In England, the quaint village of Wall resides just next to a stone barrier that acts as the divide between the world of humans and the world of magic in Stormhold, and it is guarded to ensure no one ever crosses. When a young man named Dunstan (<strong>Nathaniel Parker<\/strong>) manages to get across, he spends the night with an enslaved princess \u2014 nine months later, a baby named Tristan is delivered to Dunstan\u2019s doorstep. As an adult, Tristan (<strong>Charlie Cox<\/strong>) finds himself at the center of a hunt for a fallen star (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrities\/claire-danes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Claire Danes<\/strong><\/a>), forcing him to cross back over into Stormhold to find her and discover his destiny.<\/p>\n<p><em>Stardust<\/em> is perhaps not a typical rom-com, but it is a wonderfully charming fantasy-adventure romance with an undeniable sense of humor that mixes tongue-in-cheek humor that appeals to kids with some racier jokes that will go over their heads. The movie is broadly appealing but not in a bad way; it\u2019s a spirited, lively and exhilarating yarn that is a must-watch for fans of <em>The Princess Bride.\u00a0<\/em><em>Stardust\u2019s<\/em> fantastic ensemble cast also includes <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrities\/michelle-pfeiffer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Michelle Pfeiffer<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrities\/robert-de-niro\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Robert De Niro<\/a><\/strong> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrities\/sienna-miller\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Sienna Miller<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>\u2018Celeste and Jesse Forever\u2019 (2012)<\/h2>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"CELESTE AND JESSE FOREVER [2012] - Official Trailer (HD)\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/aJYjR00zCMc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>High school sweethearts Celeste (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrities\/rashida-jones\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Rashida Jones<\/strong><\/a>) and Jesse (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrities\/andy-samberg\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Andy Samberg<\/strong><\/a>) get married young, but their passionate early romance starts losing its spark just as quickly. While Celeste is a successful trend analyzer who runs her own company, Jesse is an unemployed artist who seems in no rush to find steady work. When Celeste finally gets the courage to tell Jesse that she\u2019d like a divorce, she promises him that they will remain friends. But the two former lovers seem unwilling to spend much time apart, and the arrangement raises the eyebrows of their friends \u2014 then, Celeste starts having second thoughts.<\/p>\n<p>While\u00a0<em>Celeste and Jesse Forever<\/em> isn\u2019t terribly subversive or setting out to do much to differentiate itself from a packed rom-com genre, it excels effortlessly through the unique charms of Jones and Samberg. Ultimately, the movie also succeeds at feeling authentic to reality, capturing the messy, flawed and often incomprehensible behavior of people after they break up. But when Megan seems to express a concerning interest in things like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrities\/melissa-etheridge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Melissa Etheridge<\/strong><\/a>, vegetarianism and her fellow cheerleaders, her parents are left with no choice but to send her to gay conversion camp True Directions. There, she meets fellow lesbians Graham (<strong>Clea DuVall<\/strong>), Hilary (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrities\/melanie-lynskey\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Melanie Lynskey<\/strong><\/a>) and Sinead (<strong>Katharine Towne<\/strong>).
