\t\t<\/p>\n Shonda Rhimes<\/strong><\/a> is reacting to the Academy\u2019s decision to not include Eric Dane<\/strong><\/a> in the In Memoriam segment at the 2026 Oscars<\/em>.<\/p>\n During the awards show held on Sunday (March 15), the late Grey\u2019s Anatomy<\/em> actor was one the many stars that were noticeably absent from the memorial segment<\/a> dedicated to stars who passed away in the last year, including moving tributes to Rob <\/strong>and Michele Reiner<\/strong>, Diane Keaton<\/strong> and Robert Redford<\/strong>.<\/p>\n As she arrived at the Vanity Fair<\/em> after-party following the Oscars<\/em>, Shonda<\/strong>, 56, defended the Academy for excluding Eric<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Keep reading to find out more\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/span> \u201cWell, he\u2019s not a movie star, you know?\u201d Shonda<\/strong> told Entertainment Tonight<\/a><\/em>. \u201cAnd I feel like when the Emmys come around, he will be [immortalized] the way he should be.\u201d <\/p>\n \u201cWe can\u2019t fault the Oscars for the fact that they\u2019re looking at movies,\u201d she continued. \u201cAnd there were so many people who were lost, but Eric was unique to television and I can\u2019t wait to see what they do with him [at the Emmys].\u201d <\/p>\n While Eric<\/strong> might be best known for playing Dr. Mark Sloan, aka McSteamy, on Grey\u2019s Anatomy<\/em>, he does have 19 movie credits to his name, including 2006\u2032s X-Men: The Last Stand<\/em>, 2008\u2032s Marley & Me<\/em>, 2010\u2032s Valentine\u2019s Day<\/em>, and 2024\u2032s Bad Boys: Ride or Die<\/em>.<\/p>\n If you didn\u2019t see the sad news, Eric<\/strong> died on February 19, nearly one year after he announced that he had been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). He was 53-years-old.<\/p>\n
