Fallon \/ AFP via Getty Images)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As you likely recall, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehollywoodgossip.com\/2026\/03\/conan-obrien-wishes-he-had-not-been-dragged-into-rob-reiner-murder-coverage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Reiner and his wife were stabbed to death<\/a> in their home in December of 2025.<\/p>\n<p>As one of the most beloved figures in Hollywood history, the filmmaker naturally received a stirring tribute during last night\u2019s ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>Friend Billy Crystal noted that his career might not have happened were it not for Reiner, and several other stars \u2014 including Jerry O\u2019Connell, John Cusack, and Mandy Patinkin \u2014 also took the stage to honor the late director.<\/p>\n<p>But the tender moment was not without controversy.<\/p>\n<p>For one thing, there was the usual criticism about which late stars were left out of the in memoriam segment.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"98th Oscars In Memoriam, Pt. 2\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/sH-qkd35aRM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>James Van Der Beek, Eric Dane, Malcolm Jamal Warner, Robert Carradine, June Lockhart, <em>Harold and Maude<\/em> star Bud Cort, and Brigitte Bardot were among those who were left out.<\/p>\n<p>Many also cited Gene Hackman, but he was honored at the previous year\u2019s ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>The Reiner tribute also generated controversy with regard to living stars who were not invited to participate.<\/p>\n<p>Corey Feldman \u2014 who starred in Reiner\u2019s<em> Stand By Me<\/em>, along with Cusack \u2014 took to social media to complain about his omission.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just want to briefly mention this Oscars thing! However, this isn\u2019t about me. It\u2019s not my moment at all. It\u2019s about the tragic loss of our friend Rob Reiner and his memory.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere in the segment, Barbra Streisand crooned a few bars of \u201cThe Way We Were\u201d to honor the late Robert Redford, and Rachel McAdams recalled her favorite memories of Diane Keaton and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehollywoodgossip.com\/2026\/01\/catherine-ohara-cause-of-death-home-alone-schitts-creek-star-was-71\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Catherine O\u2019Hara<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>All-in-all, the in memoriam was a stirring tribute to some of the iconic talents that we lost in 2025 and the early months of 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Sadly, such segments are usually limited to little more than five to ten minutes, meaning not every fallen star can be included.<\/p>\n<p>The reasoning behind such decisions might not always be apparent to us, but we\u2019re glad that so many icons were memorialized on Hollywood\u2019s biggest night.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehollywoodgossip.com\/2026\/03\/rob-reiner-diane-keaton-tributes-break-hearts-ignite-controversy-at-2026-oscars\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Reading Time: 3 minutes As expected, the 2026 Oscars featured plenty of memorable moments, including big wins for Michael B.
