The 2026 Oscars<\/a> was full of stars, but some celebrities missed out on the action.<\/p>\n

Conan O\u2019Brien<\/strong> hosted the 98th Academy Awards at Hollywood\u2019s Dolby Theatre on Sunday, March 15, and a lot went down during the lengthy ceremony. Between a surprising tie, a shocking upset leading to Michael B. Jordan\u2019s win and a golden performance, the awards show was a must-watch \u2014 but not for some people.<\/p>\n

Now a three-time Oscar winner, One Battle After Another<\/em> <\/a>star Sean Penn<\/strong> was noticeably absent from Sunday\u2019s ceremony. Kieran Culkin<\/strong> announced the Best Supporting Actor<\/a> category, revealing that Penn, 65, was not in the audience despite securing the win for his role as Colonel Steven J. Lockjaw.<\/p>\n

\u201cSean couldn\u2019t be here this evening \u2014 or didn\u2019t want to be \u2014 so I\u2019ll be accepting the award on his behalf,\u201d Culkin quipped before walking off stage.<\/p>\n

Penn won over Frankenstein<\/em>\u2019s Jacob Elordi<\/strong>, Sinners<\/em>\u2019 Delroy Lindo<\/strong>, Sentimental Value<\/em>\u2019s Stellan Skarsg\u00e5rd<\/strong> and fellow One Battle After Another<\/em> star Benicio Del Toro<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

While the auditorium had tons of recognizable faces, Penn wasn\u2019t the only star who decided to skip out on all the glitz and glamour on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Sean Penn<\/h2>\n

Penn took home an award, but he still skipped out. The New York Times<\/em> reported on Sunday that Penn was overseas<\/a>, causing him to miss the awards ceremony.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis plan as of late last week was to visit Ukraine, according to two people who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter,\u201d the newspaper reported, noting that it was not specified what Penn \u201cwould be doing there\u201d or where he would be within the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere remained some possibility that although Penn had left the United States by the time of the telecast, his itinerary might have changed,\u201d the Times report added.<\/p>\n

Hailee Steinfeld<\/h2>\n

The Sinners star is currently pregnant, expecting her first child<\/a> with husband Josh Allen<\/strong>. When costar Jordan took home his Best Actor win, he explained the reason for Steinfeld\u2019s absence during his speech.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cHailee, at home, she\u2019s, you know, getting ready to have a baby right now,\u201d Jordan said, mentioning one of his two Sinners<\/em> characters. \u201cThank you so much for being the other half of Stack.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brad Pitt<\/h2>\n

Pitt starred in F1<\/em>, which was up for several awards on Sunday \u2014 including Best Picture \u2014 but failed to attend the ceremony. Details about his absence are unclear, but Pitt\u2019s costar Damson Idris<\/strong> held down the fort.<\/p>\n
