Now? It seems not only plausible but downright probable.<\/p>\n

While Sinners<\/em> might dominate several of the major categories, director Paul Thomas Anderson appears poised to take home Best Director for One Battle After Another<\/em>.<\/p>\nAnd frankly, it would be a long-overdue moment.<\/p>\n
Anderson has been nominated multiple times without winning \u2014 the kind of narrative that tends to motivate Academy voters.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s not really the case this year.<\/p>\n
One Battle After Another<\/em> got out to an early lead, but with just hours remaining until the big announcement, many prognosticators now have Sinners<\/em> pulling out an upset win.<\/p>\nHonestly, it could go either way. And while it\u2019s unlikely, there\u2019s even a possibility that the two favorites will split the vote and enable a dark horse like Hamnet<\/em> to steal the night\u2019s top prize.<\/p>\nThis is the Oscars, which means anything could happen. And we\u2019ve seen some wild upsets in recent years.<\/p>\n
That said, Best Picture will likely go to either Sinners<\/em> or OBAA<\/em>, and both films are certainly deserving.<\/p>\nBut given the Academy\u2019s historic disdain for genre fare, we\u2019re giving the slight edge to PTA\u2019s madcap comic masterpiece.<\/p>\n
Of course, it\u2019s sure to be a big evening for Sinners<\/em>, as well.
