Britney, 44, was arrested<\/a> on suspicion of driving under the influence of a combination of alcohol and drugs on March 4 after she was seen \u201cdriving erratically at a high rate of speed,\u201d according to the California Highway Patrol.<\/p>\n

An insider told Us Weekly<\/em>, \u201cHer family and team are looking into treatment options for both addiction and mental health, but it won\u2019t be easy to talk her into it unless she feels ready herself. You can\u2019t force it. They just need to have hope that she will take this arrest and its consequences.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tBritney Spears spent a few hours behind bars after she was arrested for driving under the influence in Ventura County, California. According to the Ventura County Sheriff\u2019s Office, Spears, 44, was booked into the pretrial detention facility at 3:02 a.m. on Thursday, March 5 and cited. The pop star was released at 6:07 a.m, spending [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Britney is scheduled to appear in court on May 4, according to online records, with Bennett telling Us,<\/em> \u201cI think a [treatment option] would absolutely reduce the possible fines and jail time, and it\u2019s actually very common in DUI cases. Judges often look at what the person has done after the arrest and if Britney shows some signs of entering either voluntary treatment, completing alcohol or drug counseling or taking other steps to show some kind of accountability her attorney can present that as mitigation.\u201d<\/p>\n

She adds, \u201cCourts generally want to see that the underlying issue is being addressed. While those efforts won\u2019t completely erase the charge, they can absolutely help reduce penalties and make probation or a diversion program more likely than jail time.\u201d<\/p>\n
