She also said: \u201cI\u2019m offended and disappointed in what he said. I didn\u2019t realise he was that vapid and that shallow.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nWhoopi also addressed the remarks during The View, referencing Timoth\u00e9e\u2019s background and warning dismissing other art forms can have consequences.<\/p>\n
\nShe said: \u201cYou come from a dance family, so when you c*** on somebody else\u2019s art form, it doesn\u2019t feel good.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cYou probably didn\u2019t realise until you said, \u2018Oh, I\u2019m in trouble\u2019… I\u2019m just saying. Be careful, boy.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cHe is a boy to me. No disrespect.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nWhoopi went on: \u201cReally, don\u2019t apologise when you\u2019ve insulted. It doesn\u2019t sound right.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\u201cYou can\u2019t say, \u2018Oh, this is dumb, no disrespect.\u2019 That\u2019s absolute disrespect.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nDuring his discussion with Matthew, Oscar-nominated Timoth\u00e9e spoke about the state of movie theatres and the challenge of encouraging audiences to continue attending cinemas.<\/p>\n
\nHe compared the debate around cinemas to other forms of performance such as ballet and opera, which he suggested survive partly through efforts to keep them relevant.<\/p>\n
\nTimoth\u00e9e said: \u201cI admire when actors go on a talk show and go, \u2018Hey, we gotta keep movie theaters alive. You know, we gotta keep this genre alive\u2019.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cAnd another part of me feels like, if people wanna see it, like Barbie, like Oppenheimer, they\u2019re gonna go see it and go out of their way and be loud and proud about it.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nTimoth\u00e9e added: \u201cAnd I don\u2019t want to be working in ballet or opera, or things where it\u2019s like, \u2018Hey, keep this thing alive\u2019. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cEven though it\u2019s like, no one cares about this anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nTimoth\u00e9e added: \u201cAll respect to the ballet and opera people out there. I just lost 14 cents in viewership.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nTimoth\u00e9e\u2019s comments have already prompted responses from several opera organisations. <\/p>\n
\nThe Royal Ballet and Opera shared a video on Instagram highlighting performers and backstage staff working at the Royal Opera House.<\/p>\n
\nThe Royal Ballet and Opera wrote: \u201cEvery night at the Royal Opera House, thousands of people gather for ballet and opera. For the music. For the storytelling. For the sheer magic of live performance.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nThe organisation added: \u201cIf you\u2019d like to reconsider, Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet, our doors are open.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nThe English National Opera also invited Timoth\u00e9e to attend a performance, while the Seattle Opera promoted a discount on tickets for its production of Carmen, offering 14 percent off using the code \u201cTimoth\u00e9e\u201d.<\/p>\n
