Alysa Liu<\/strong><\/a> is making it clear where she stands politically.<\/p>\n In a new interview with Rolling Stone<\/a><\/em> published on Saturday (March 7), the 20-year-old Olympic gold medal-winning figure skater<\/a> clarified any confusion people may have on her political stance.<\/p>\n Keep reading to find out more\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/span>\u201cOur family is pretty liberal, and I would say it\u2019s thanks to my father,\u201d Alysa<\/strong> said of herself and four siblings. \u201cWe\u2019re proud of his story. We\u2019re outspoken too. Just like he was outspoken, I would say. He was really outspoken. A whole \u2018nother level.\u201d<\/p>\n Alysa<\/strong>\u2018s father, Arthur Liu<\/strong>, is a former political refugee in China who was \u201csmuggled\u201d to the United States when he was in his 20s after he was very vocal in his protest against the Communist government following the 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre.<\/p>\n \u201cBecause he\u2019s so into politics, my whole family is as well,\u201d Alysa<\/strong> explained. \u201cJust the ideology to fight for what\u2019s right and speak up. Basic human rights, stuff like that.\u201d<\/p>\n While she admitted she \u201cwas no student protest organizer or nothing,\u201d Alysa<\/strong> shared how she has actively followed in her dad\u2019s footsteps. <\/p>\n \u201cMe and my friend, we go to protests,\u201d she said. \u201cMe and my best friend, their family is also really involved in politics. Sometimes we\u2019ll call our policy makers. We would write letters. I remember when we were kids, we\u2019d do [that] a lot.\u201d<\/p>\n As for the issues she\u2019s most passionate about, Alysa<\/strong> said, \u201cA lot of climate stuff. But mostly election things, Black Lives Matter, Stop Asian Hate, ICE protests. A ton of that stuff.\u201d <\/p>\n Along with some of her fellow Team USA athletes, including fellow figure skater<\/a> Amber Glenn<\/strong><\/a>, Alysa<\/strong> was not afraid to speak openly and candidly during the 2026 Winter Olympics<\/em>.<\/p>\n \u201cWe are Americans and I think that all of us have such unique stories and backgrounds, that is kind of what it\u2019s all about,\u201d she said. \u201cWe can share our stories on the big stage. We had a super diverse team. I was proud that I could represent who I was on the big stage on behalf of the Americans that could relate to me.\u201d<\/p>\n Alysa<\/strong> added, \u201cIt\u2019s all about telling stories and having people feel for you.
