The Genetic Opera\u2019 (2008)<\/h2>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Repo! This devastation gives rise to the company GeneCo., which provides transplants at a costly payment plan \u2014 and if you miss a payment, you\u2019re hunted down by assassins called Repo Men who repossess your organs. Meanwhile, an ill young woman named Shilo (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrities\/alexa-vega\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Alexa PenaVega<\/strong><\/a>) seeks a cure for her rare blood disease, not knowing that she is the illegitimate daughter of GeneCo.\u2019s CEO (<strong>Paul Sorvino<\/strong>).<\/p>\n<p><em>Repo! The Genetic Opera<\/em> is based on the 2002 stage musical of the same name. While it failed at the box office and polarized critics, many feel that it\u2019s destined to become a cult hit like <em>The Rocky Horror Picture Show<\/em> (it has indeed enjoyed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/why-repo-genetic-opera-could-98210\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">midnight movie screenings<\/a>). Though\u00a0Gyllenhaal struck down speculation that\u00a0<em>The Bride!\u00a0<\/em>is a musical (although, apparently, her brother <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrities\/jake-gyllenhaal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Jake<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0<em>does<\/em> sing), the maximalist aesthetic, grisly, organ-swapping narrative and glam-rock vibes make <em>Repo! The Genetic Opera<\/em> on Tubi.<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>\u2018Wild at Heart\u2019 (1990)<\/h2>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Wild At Heart (1990) - Official Trailer\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/dQIdBfrF0Ik?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>After serving a stint in prison for a self-defense murder, Sailor (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrities\/nicolas-cage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Nicolas Cage<\/strong><\/a>) reunites with his girlfriend Lula (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrities\/laura-dern\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Laura Dern<\/strong><\/a>) against the express wishes of her controlling mother, Marietta (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrity-news\/news\/diane-ladd-dead-laura-derns-mother-and-alice-actress-was-89\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the late <strong>Diane Ladd<\/strong><\/a>). When Lula agrees to run away to California with Sailor (even though it will break his parole), Marietta hires her on-off boyfriend, private eye Johnny Farragut (<strong>Harry Dean Stanton<\/strong>), to track them down. Little does Johnny know, Marietta has also hired another boyfriend of hers, gangster Marcello Santos (<strong>J. E. Freeman<\/strong>), to kill Sailor. But when Sailor gets involved with criminal Bobby Peru (<strong>Willem Dafoe<\/strong>), Peru may end up doing Santos\u2019 work for him.<\/p>\n<p>While\u00a0<em>Wild at Heart<\/em> is no gothic horror, Gyllenhaal revealed in a recent press conference that David Lynch\u2019s subversive love story served as a key inspiration for <em>The Bride! <\/em>That makes sense since <em>Wild at Heart<\/em> is a movie about two passionate lovers who can\u2019t be separated, even though the world at large wants them apart, or worse, dead. Unfortunately, humans are ignorant of the intentions of the Monster, who has a good heart despite his appearance and lack of self-control. Meanwhile, Dr. Frankenstein (<strong>Colin Clive<\/strong>) is goaded by his mentor, Dr. Pretorius (<strong>Ernest Thesiger<\/strong>), into resuming his unholy creation of life \u2014 and creating a mate for the Monster.<\/p>\n<p>Most critics and fans of <em>The Bride of Frankenstein<\/em> believe it to be a vast improvement over\u00a0<em>Frankenstein<\/em> and a deeper, more mature exploration of the themes from Mary Shelley\u2019s original novel.
