Alex Cooper has learned some harsh lessons<\/p>\n
\nThe 30-year-old Call Her Daddy host has opened up about building her multimillion-dollar Unwell media empire, admitting that her early days in the industry came with a steep learning curve.<\/p>\n
\nAppearing on Phoebe Gates and Sophia Kianni’s The Burnouts podcast, Alex said: “I wish I would have put more things in writing so that I could back up what really happened. <\/p>\n
\n“It’s so crazy how much emotion can get tied into business. As much as everyone’s like, it’s business, it’s not personal \u2014 everyone takes it f****** personal, especially if it is your own company or your brand.”<\/p>\n
\nThe media mogul recalled being caught off guard when people misrepresented conversations she had with them in good faith.<\/p>\n
\nShe explained: “Some of my missteps in business came when I was being honest with someone, who would then turn it around and say I had done something entirely different. And I’m like, ‘Wait, that never happened.’ I guess I technically should have put that in writing \u2014 so I think now I put everything in writing.”<\/p>\n
\nAlex also pulled back the curtain on the inner workings of her landmark $60 million Spotify deal, signed in 2021, revealing she’d initially been offered a comparable deal with Amazon but turned it down.<\/p>\n
\nAlex recalled: “To be honest, it was the same amount of money basically and a little less work. So I was like, why would I not do Spotify?”<\/p>\n
\nThe Spotify arrangement \u2014 52 episodes a year with a guaranteed monthly income and no download targets \u2014 was easy to “wrap her head around”.<\/p>\n
\nAlex admitted she was “so green” when she signed the deal, recalling her confusion at discovering her agents at United Talent Agency received the Spotify payments first before passing on her share.<\/p>\n
\nShe said: “I was like, ‘Wait, no, I want that in my bank account. And then I’ll send your 10 percent.'”<\/p>\n
