Bridgerton<\/em><\/a>\u2018s newest season made numerous mentions of a pinnacle \u2014 but what does the code word related to sex mean?<\/p>\n

Season 4, which concluded in February, featured numerous scenes where Francesca (Hannah Dodd<\/strong>) spoke to husband John (Victor Alli<\/strong>) and others in her life about reaching her \u201cpinnacle,\u201d which she struggled with in both parts of the show. Francesca ultimately wasn\u2019t able to find an answer to her issue before John\u2019s shocking death.<\/p>\n

While Bridgerton<\/em> never directly addressed what pinnacle stood for, it is a euphemism from the Regency-era that can also stand for an orgasm or the peak of sexual pleasure. It was meant to address Francesca\u2019s personal struggles, which changed from how they originally unfolded in Julia Quinn<\/strong>\u2018s book series.<\/p>\n

During season 4, Francesca briefly assumed she was pregnant. She was forced to undergo an exam, which is when she found out she wasn\u2019t expecting a baby. The revelation was a departure from Julia Quinn<\/strong>\u2018s<\/a> When He Was Wicked<\/em> where Francesca miscarried weeks after John\u2019s death.<\/p>\n

Warning: Spoilers ahead for Bridgerton season 4 part 2 During part 2, which aired on Thursday, February 26, Francesca\u2019s (Hannah Dodd) husband, John (Victor Alli), died in his sleep. The pivotal moment changed the trajectory for the rest of the season as Francesca mourned her [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cUltimately, I think John\u2019s death and the funeral are already in so many ways such a departure from the tone of the show,\u201d showrunner Jess Brownell told Swooon. \u201cI think episode 7 has hints of lightness, but it is a much darker version of Bridgerton in a way that I think is really interesting, and especially in the way we get to watch the family come together.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brownell referred to the miscarriage as \u201ctoo morbid\u201d to add, saying, \u201cWe\u2019re still very interested in honoring the fertility story line. It\u2019s something we tried to honor this season, and we will continue honoring in her future season.\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued: \u201cBut yeah, the miscarriage just felt like, for the screen, a bit too far. I think it would be difficult for Fran to come back from all that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Quinn, meanwhile, also weighed in on the evolution<\/a> from her original idea.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think [Francesca\u2019s] emotions are the same. I have experienced pregnancy loss. I had three failed pregnancies between my two children,\u201d she told the outlet. \u201cAnd so I wrote her character very deeply from my own experiences. And I think changing up sort of how her loss happened really doesn\u2019t affect her grief with that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Quinn praised how Bridgerton<\/em><\/a> navigated John\u2019s death. \u201cAlmost five years ago, I lost my dad and my sister to a drunk driver, so that is obviously a very sudden thing, just like Francesca,\u201d she noted. \u201cI thought they handled it really well, especially the sense of bewilderment. Because I think when you do lose somebody suddenly, there\u2019s a surreal aspect to it.\u201d<\/p>\n
