OpenAI has delayed the launch of \u201cadult mode,\u201d a ChatGPT feature that will give verified adult users access to erotica and other adult content.<\/p>\n
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman first announced the feature in October<\/a>, writing, \u201cIn December, as we roll out age-gating more fully and as part of our \u2018treat adult users like adults\u2019 principle, we will allow even more, like erotica for verified adults.\u201d<\/p>\n The launch had already been delayed once,<\/a> from December \u2014 when Altman reportedly sent an internal memo declaring a \u201ccode red\u201d and calling for teams to focus on the core ChatGPT experience \u2014 until the first quarter of this year.\u00a0<\/p>\n Now an OpenAI spokesperson has told Axios<\/a> that the company is\u00a0 \u201cpushing out the launch of adult mode\u201d in order to \u201cfocus on work that is a higher priority for more users right now,\u201d such as work on aspects like intelligence, personality, and making the chatbot \u201cmore proactive.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWe still believe in the principle of treating adults like adults, but getting the experience right will take more time, \u201d the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n It\u2019s not clear how long the delay is expected to last.
