Her performance as Agnes Hathaway carries the film and will likely carry Buckley to even greater stardom going forward. Agnes is the lover of William Shakespeare (Paul Mescal) and, later, his wife.

As Shakespeare pursues a career in theater that will make him a legend, Agnes raises their children, Hamnet (Jacobi Jupe), Judith (Olivia Lynes) and Susanna (Bodhi Rae Breathnach). When tragedy strikes the family, not even the love between Agnes and William may be able to keep them together. Homecoming played up the youth and inexperience of Peter Parker (Holland) as he desperately tries to win the approval of Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) so he can join the Avengers.

Former Batman star Michael Keaton plays the film’s villain, Adrian Toomes. As the Vulture, Toomes has a grudge against Stark and a connection to Spider-Man that will chill Peter to his bones. This is largely a lighthearted movie, but there are certain scenes where Keaton brings incredible menace and tension to his interactions with Peter. There have been greater comic book movies and even better Spider-Man films than this one.
