Following months of speculation about a rift in the family, the 27-year-old chef issued a hard-hitting statement in January, in which he accused his mother of “hijacking” the first dance at their wedding, going back on plans to make Nicola’s bridal gown, pressuring him to “sign away the right” to his name, and controlling the lives of their children.<\/p>\n
And when asked directly about the attention she’s received over the situation, actress-and-director Nicola – who made a suprise appearance in the season finale of The Beauty – insisted she has been too busy working on her next movie, Prima, to care.<\/p>\n
Asked how she has navigated the public interest in the wake of the row, she told The Hollywood Reporter: “I\u2019ve been editing my next film [Prima] for the past two and a half weeks.<\/p>\n
“So honestly, I\u2019ve been in the editing room. We haven\u2019t had weekends. <\/p>\n
\n“We\u2019ve just been trying to make a deadline [for Cannes]. And it\u2019s been so amazing to just put my focus on that and be creative. It\u2019s been really fun doing that, and I\u2019m really excited for it to come out.”<\/p>\n
\nA few weeks ago, Nicola’s dad, billionaire businessman Nelson Peltz, declared some of his best advice would be to keep high-stakes situations out of the public eye.<\/p>\n
\nSpeaking at a WSJ Invest Live event last month, Nelson was asked about “negotiating high-stakes situations, particularly playing out in public view”.<\/p>\n
\nHe quipped: \u201cHas my family been in the press lately? I haven’t noticed that at all.\u200b\u200b\u201d<\/p>\n
\nHe added: \u201cMy advice is to stay the hell out of the press. How much good did that do?<\/p>\n
\n“My daughter and the Beckhams are a whole other story.<\/p>\n
\n“That\u2019s not for coverage here today, but I’ll tell you my daughter’s great, my son-law Brooklyn is great, and I look forward to them having a long, happy marriage together.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nNelson, a father-of-ten, was asked if has given the couple any advice on navigating difficult situations.<\/p>\n
\nHe said: “I do. Sometimes they give me advice.”<\/p>\n
\nBrooklyn had shared his lengthy bombshell post on Instagram in which he accused his parents of being responsible for their family rift.<\/p>\n
\nHe claimed: “My mum hijacked my first dance with my wife, which had been planned weeks in advance to a romantic love song.<\/p>\n
\n“In front of our 500 wedding guests, Marc Anthony called me to the stage, where in the schedule was planned to be my romantic dance with my wife but instead my mum was waiting to dance with me instead.<\/p>\n
\n“She danced very inappropriately on me in front of everyone. I\u2019ve never felt more uncomfortable or humiliated in my entire life.<\/p>\n
\n“We wanted to renew our vows so we could create new memories of our wedding day that bring us joy and happiness, not anxiety and embarrassment.”<\/p>\n
\nThe final story post in the explosive statement told how the couple and their “future family” just want “peace, privacy and happiness”.<\/p>\n
\nBrooklyn wrote: “The narrative that my wife controls me is completely backwards. I have been controlled by my parents for most of my life.<\/p>\n
\n“I grew up with overwhelming anxiety. For the first time in my life, since stepping away from my family, that anxiety has disappeared.<\/p>\n
\n“I wake up every morning grateful for the life I chose, and have found peace and relief.<\/p>\n
\n“My wife and I do not want a life shaped by image, press, or manipulation. All we want peace, privacy and happiness for us and our future family.”<\/p>\n
