The 45-year-old pop star was driving in Sag Harbor, New York in June 2024 when his car was pulled over by police and he later pleaded guilty to a traffic violation and driving while ability impaired – now Timberlake’s lawyers are trying to prevent video taken on police body cameras during his arrest from being made public. <\/p>\n
Legal papers have been filed in Sag Harbor in a bid to stop the footage being released following Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests and Variety now reports the singer’s legal team has been granted a temporary restraining order.<\/p>\n
The publication reports Suffolk County Judge Joseph Farneti approved the request on Thursday (05.03.26) and officials in Sag Harbor have been given until April 9 to submit extra documentation for the case.<\/p>\n
Timberlake was stopped by cops after allegedly running a stop sign and swerving between lanes and the paperwork filed in Sag Harbor claimed the footage in question shows the singer “in an acutely vulnerable state during a roadside encounter with law enforcement” adding the film captured “intimate details” of Timberlake\u2019s “physical appearance, demeanor, speech, and conduct”. <\/p>\n
\nNew York Post column PageSix reported Timberlake’s lawyer Michael Del Piano claimed releasing the footage would cause “severe and irreparable harm” to the singer’s “personal and professional reputation” and subject him to “public ridicule and harassment”. <\/p>\n
\nThe attorney added: “[There is] no legitimate public interest in understanding the operations of government … disclosure of this footage would constitute an unwarranted invasion [of Timberlake’s privacy].” <\/p>\n
\nAfter entering his guilty pleas, Timberlake was ordered to perform 25 to 40 hours of community service and his New York driving licence was suspended for 90 days. He was also required to pay a $500 fine and a $260 surcharge. <\/p>\n
\nThe singer claimed to have only consumed one alcoholic drink prior to his arrest and after the case came to an end, Timberlake urged others to learn from his mistakes. <\/p>\n
\nSpeaking to the press outside the New York court, the pop star said: “What I\u2019d like to say to everyone watching and listening, even if you\u2019ve had one drink, don\u2019t get behind the wheel of a car. <\/p>\n
\n“There are so many alternatives. Call a friend, take an Uber, there are many travel apps, take a taxi. This is a mistake that I made, but I am hoping that whoever is watching and listening right now can learn from this mistake.”<\/p>\n
