Netflix<\/a> has teamed up with acclaimed documentarian Louis Theroux<\/strong> for a hard-hitting documentary about the toxicity of the \u201cManosphere.\u201d<\/p>\n

On the heels of Netflix\u2019s Emmy Award-winning drama series Adolescence<\/em><\/a>, Theroux embeds within the controversial world of the men\u2019s rights movement for Louis Theroux: Inside the Manosphere<\/em>. Theroux meets with many of the figures accused of warping young men\u2019s minds, including divisive online content creators such as HS Tikky Tokky<\/strong> (a.k.a Harrison Sullivan), Sneako<\/strong> (a.k.a. Nicolas Kenn De Balinthazy) and Myron Gaines<\/strong>, among others, to examine their growing influence on young males.<\/p>\n

Theroux is no stranger to controversial subject matter, as he has previously profiled hate groups such as Aryan Nation and the Westboro Baptist Church, and made himself an enemy of the Church of Scientology with his 2015 film My Scientology Movie<\/em>.<\/p>\n

What Is the \u2018Manosphere\u2019?<\/h2>\n

The \u201cManosphere\u201d is a catch-all term for an online community whose members espouse anti-feminist beliefs. Within the movement, many prominent content creators promote controversial theories that society has become biased against men because of an anti-male agenda supposedly pursued by feminists.<\/p>\n

The \u201cManosphere\u201d has frequently been associated with the alt-right political movement, with Andrew Tate<\/strong>, Adin Ross<\/strong> and Jordan Peterson<\/strong> among its most influential figures. There are various offshoots within the \u201cManosphere,\u201d including incel culture \u2014 a group of \u201cinvoluntary celibates\u201d \u2014 and Gamergate, an online harassment campaign aimed at women in the video game industry. Members of the movement often reference the \u201cred pill\u201d from The Matrix<\/em>, which opened their eyes to supposed injustices. (The Matrix<\/em> filmmakers Lana<\/strong> and Lilly Wachowski<\/strong> have repeatedly distanced themselves from the \u201cManosphere.\u201d)<\/p>\n

In addition to promoting inflammatory views about women and conspiracy theories, the \u201cManosphere\u201d has also been linked to multiple real-world acts of violence. When terrorist Elliot Rodger<\/strong> killed six people in Isla Vista, California, in May 2014, he left behind a manifesto espousing a litany of anti-feminist beliefs that came to be associated with the \u201cManosphere.\u201d In April 2018, Alek Minassian<\/strong> killed 11 people \u2014 nine of them women \u2014 in a vehicle-ramming attack in Toronto, Canada, in a continuation of the so-called \u201cincel rebellion\u201d started by Rodger. (Rodger took his own life during a standoff with police after his mass killing incident, while Minassian was convicted on 10 counts of first-degree murder and 16 counts of attempted murder in November 2020.)<\/p>\n

The topic of Louis Theroux: Inside the Manosphere<\/em> may bring to mind Jack Thorne<\/strong> and Stephen Graham<\/strong>\u2019s Adolescence<\/em>, the Emmy-winning drama series about a 13-year-old boy (Owen Cooper<\/strong>) accused of murdering a female classmate. The gripping crime drama fictionalized the influence of the \u201cManosphere\u201d on one vulnerable young mind.<\/p>\n

Louis Theroux told Deadline<\/em><\/a> in February 2026 that Inside the Manosphere<\/em> was shot before Adolescence<\/em> was released by Netflix, so any thematic similarities are coincidental.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s sort of nothing like Adolescence<\/em> but it\u2019s in the precinct of what the boy in Adolescence<\/em> might have been watching,\u201d he explained. \u201cI guess Adolescence<\/em> was a proof of concept, but I don\u2019t ever think we needed a proof of concept.
