Released in 1995, the original Heat \u2013\u00a0directed by Michael Mann \u2013 starred Al Pacino<\/a>, now 85, as a detective in pursuit of a career criminal played by Robert De Niro, 82, and it has already emerged Leonardo DiCaprio, 51, and Adam Driver, 42, have reportedly been linked to the production of a follow up. <\/p>\n

Christian, 51, has now appeared to confirm his involvement in the crime saga sequel during an interview with Jake Hamilton of Fox32 News. <\/p>\n

Posting on social media, Jake wrote: \u201cChristian Bale<\/a> just told me: I\u2019ll be back in Chicago soon for HEAT 2!\u201d<\/p>\n

Heat is widely regarded as a landmark of the 1990s crime thriller genre and explored the mirrored obsessions of Pacino and De Niro\u2019s characters. <\/p>\n

\nA sequel has been discussed for years, but the project has gathered momentum in recent months, with several high-profile actors as well as DiCaprio and Driver attached.<\/p>\n

\nFilmmaker Michael Mann, 83, spoke about the project\u2019s progress in an interview with Variety in late September. <\/p>\n

\nHe said: \u201cI look forward to possibly shooting it in 2026. We\u2019re in the middle of doing all the things \u2013 budgeting, scheduling, casting process.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nChristian is currently promoting The Bride!, a new interpretation of the Frankenstein story co-starring Jessie Buckley. <\/p>\n

\nHe is also attached to a forthcoming film based on the life of former NFL coach John Madden, in which John is portrayed by Nicolas Cage.<\/p>\n

\nElsewhere, a new adaptation of American Psycho is in development. <\/p>\n

\nThe original 2000 film version of the title helped establish Christian as a leading man after playing titular psychopath Patrick Bateman in the project. <\/p>\n

\nAuthor Bret Easton Ellis, 61, recently said numerous \u201chigh profile actors\u201d had declined the role of Patrick in a new film revival of his novel.<\/p>\n

\nHe said: \u201cI think maybe because they don\u2019t want to be in the shoes of Christian Bale.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nChristian began acting as a child and gained international attention in Empire of the Sun.<\/p>\n

\nHe later earned acclaim for roles including Batman in The Dark Knight trilogy, and won an Oscar for his work in The Fighter.<\/p>\n
