The family of former New York Rangers legend Ron Duguay<\/strong> have launched a GoFundMe to raise funds amid the ice hockey player\u2019s battle with cancer.<\/p>\n

Created on Tuesday, February 24, by Duguay\u2019s two daughters, Shay Thomas<\/strong> and Amber Stavros<\/strong>, whom he shares with ex-wife Robin Bobo<\/strong>, the GoFundMe page<\/a> detailed that Duguay, 68, is flying from Florida to Orange County \u201cevery two weeks for ongoing\u201d cancer treatment.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Page Six<\/em><\/a> on Tuesday, Duguay revealed that he \u201chas been battling cancer for a year\u201d after being diagnosed with \u201cStage 4 cancer which started in the colon.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tDavid Livingston\/Getty Images Since going public with stage III non-Hodgkin lymphoma in November 2024, Dave Coulier has been candid about his illness, treatment and prognosis before his second diagnosis. Non-Hodgkin lymphoma is a type of cancer that affects the patient\u2019s lymphatic system, with \u201cwhite blood cells called lymphocytes [that] grow abnormally and can form growths [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

According to the GoFundMe page, which lists Duguay as a \u201cCo-organizer,\u201d the athlete did not initiate the crowdfunding exercise. \u201cOur dad has never been someone who asks for help \u2026 especially when it comes to money. He has always tried to handle everything on his own and didn\u2019t want to burden anyone else with what he\u2019s going through,\u201d a description on the page read. \u201cBut after many conversations as a family, we decided to create this fundraiser for him because we\u2019ve seen firsthand the weight this battle has placed on him, both physically and financially.\u201d<\/p>\n

At the time of publication, the initiative had raised nearly $21,000 from 114 donations. Its target was listed as $26,000.<\/p>\n

The description also shed light on what Duguay has experienced in the wake of his diagnosis. It stated, \u201cBecause of his cancer, he hasn\u2019t been able to work the way he normally would, yet he continues to fight with everything he has. Earlier in his treatment journey, the care he received in Florida nearly cost him his life. That led us to bring him to Orange County, where my sister and I live, so he could receive treatment here \u2026 and thankfully, it has helped him so far.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for what the funds would specifically go towards, Duguay\u2019s daughters provided further insight. \u201cThe cost of constant travel, along with medical care, holistic therapies, supplements, and alternative healing approaches he has committed to, has become extremely overwhelming financially,\u201d the description continued, before noting that Duguay\u2019s diagnosis is not slowing down.<\/p>\n

\u201cRecently, his cancer numbers have started to rise again, and while he continues his current treatments, we are now exploring additional treatment options outside of the United States in hopes of giving him the best possible chance,\u201d the description read. \u201cThese treatments are very expensive and add another layer of financial strain during an already difficult time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Duguay, who played 12 seasons in the National Hockey League<\/a> (NHL) including six seasons with the Rangers across two separate stints, told Page Six<\/em> on Tuesday, \u201cI find it extremely hard asking for funds for all these costs I\u2019m going through.\u201d He added, \u201cNormally I\u2019m helping others.\u201d<\/p>\n
