Alyssa Milano, Ashton Kutcher and Maria Shriver led the tributes via social media as the stars reacted to the tragic loss. Dane\u2019s family confirmed his death on Thursday, February 19 via a statement to Us Weekly. \u201cWith heavy hearts, [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
He continued, \u201cI\u2019m fairly limited in what I can do physically as an actor, but I still have my brain and I still have my speech, so I\u2019m willing to do just about anything.\u201d<\/p>\n
For Dane, sharing his diagnosis and health journey was \u201cimperative\u201d because he didn\u2019t \u201cfeel like my life is about me anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd it\u2019s something I\u2019ve had to wrestle with because I\u2019m a pretty selfish person, and I would love my life to be all about me, but I just can\u2019t \u2014 I don\u2019t think I\u2019d be able to move forward if that were the case,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Dane went on to note that his family \u2014 which includes two daughters with Rebecca Gayheart<\/strong> \u2014 was his \u201cfirst priority\u201d while also promising to use his platform to raise awareness for ALS.<\/p>\n\u201cThis is such a big deal to me, to make sure that people are aware of what ALS is and what it\u2019s about and more importantly, what we can do to combat it and improve the landscape,\u201d Dane said. \u201cBecause it\u2019s so rocky and littered with hurdles and bureaucracy and all this other nonsense that we\u2019re trying to sift through so we can get to a place where we can start working on solutions.\u201d<\/p>\n
Less than one month before his death, Dane made headlines when he missed ALS Network\u2019s Champions for Cures and Care Gala on January 24, where he was being recognized as Advocate of the Year.<\/a><\/p>\n\u201cThe ALS Network has been informed that Eric Dane had hoped to join us this evening to accept his Advocate of the Year Award, but due to the physical realities of ALS, he is not well enough to attend,\u201d the organization said in a statement, per The Hollywood Reporter<\/em>. \u201cWe remain deeply grateful for his courage, advocacy, and continued commitment to the ALS community, and we honor him fully this evening with our profound respect and support. Aaron Lazar, Broadway star and Grammy Award nominee, will accept the award on his behalf.\u201d<\/p>\nDane shared his ALS diagnosis in April 2025.
