They found a fairway to heaven!\u00a0Professional golfer Collin Morikawa<\/strong> has a special support system<\/a> in his wife, Katherine Zhu<\/strong>.<\/p>\n \u201cShe\u2019s been amazing. I\u2019m so lucky to have her,\u201d Morikawa gushed during an August 2020 interview with the Golf Channel\u2019s \u201cGolf Central\u201d<\/a> broadcast. \u201cKat\u2019s been by my side through it all. She would hate me if I didn\u2019t say this, but I didn\u2019t start winning in college until she showed up in my life.\u201d<\/p>\n The PGA Tour champ and Zhu, who played collegiate golf at Pepperdine University, were introduced by a mutual friend in 2017<\/a> nearly two years before Morikawa turned pro.<\/p>\n Zhu recalled:\u00a0\u201c[One of my competitors and I] were just being college girls and talking about life [during a summer tournament]. She said, \u2018Are you seeing anyone? Let me introduce you to someone,\u2019\u201d she told the\u00a0New York Post\u00a0<\/i><\/a>in September 2020. \u201cI said, \u2018Sure,\u2019 but I didn\u2019t really think she would actually do it.\u201d<\/p>\n Sure enough, the couple\u2019s pal \u2014 who played golf with Morikawa at the University of California, Berkeley \u2014 showed him photos from Zhu\u2019s Instagram<\/a> to pique his interest.<\/p>\n \u201cWe started talking through text,\u201d the Canada native told the outlet at the time, noting she finally met Morikawa in person over spring break.<\/p>\n The pair\u2019s romance continued to develop<\/a> while they finished up their college degrees.\u00a0Zhu then became her man\u2019s No. 1 cheerleader once he pursued a professional golf career<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cYou continue to amaze me every single day. I am so happy to see you accomplish a goal that you\u2019ve worked so hard for! I am so proud of you!\u00a0Congratulations\u00a0bby,\u201d she gushed via Instagram<\/a> in August 2020 after Morikawa won the PGA Championship.<\/p>\n After three years of dating, the Olympian proposed<\/a> to Zhu in November 2021.<\/p>\n \u201c[I was] way more nervous proposing<\/a> [than playing in a golf tournament],\u201d Morikawa quipped during a January 2022 interview with PGA Tour<\/a>. \u201cI mean, it\u2019s not even the same! It\u2019s not even in the same boat. It is so far gone. I mean, golf, I do it every day. Like, it\u2019s normal, proposing is not.\u201d<\/p>\n He continued: \u201cThat morning, I practiced [my speech] with my caddie in the Bahamas and we were on a cart and I was driving into ropes and going all over the place. It was nerve-wracking.\u201d<\/p>\n
