\t\t<\/p>\n Emerald Fennell<\/strong><\/a> is opening up about the changes she made from the Wuthering Heights<\/strong><\/a><\/em> book to her new movie adaptation. <\/p>\n The 40-year-old wrote and directed the new film version, and there are many differences, some of which have been met with controversy<\/a>. <\/p>\n In a new interview, Emerald<\/strong> talks about her decision to make changes to the material for the new movie. <\/p>\n Keep reading to find out more\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n \u201cIt was funny, you know, I think the things that I remembered were both real and not real,\u201d she dished to Entertainment Weekly<\/a><\/em>. \u201cSo there was a certain amount of wish fulfillment in there, and there were whole characters that I\u2019d sort of forgotten or consolidated.\u201d<\/p>\n Early on, she says it became clear that she \u201cwanted to make something that was my response and interpretation to that book and to the feeling of it\u201d over a direct adaptation of the characters. <\/p>\n \u201cWhen you look at not just other movie adaptations of this, but Kate Bush<\/strong>\u2018s song, or Balthus<\/strong>\u2018 lithographs, or a lot of the kind of contemporary illustrations, most of them tend to focus on Cathy and Heathcliff,\u201d Emerald<\/strong> said. \u201cBecause I think that\u2019s really the moment that draws to an end in the book.\u201d<\/p>\n The filmmaker noted that this resulted in primarily focusing on the first half of the book and required her to make some \u201chard decisions\u201d on what characters and plot points to include in the screenplay. <\/p>\n \u201cAnd I think, really, I would do a mini series and encompass the whole thing over 10 hours, and it would be beautiful,\u201d Emerald<\/strong> dished. \u201cBut if you\u2019re making a movie, and you\u2019ve got to be fairly tight, you\u2019ve got to make those kinds of hard decisions.\u201d <\/p>\n If you missed it, see what critics had to say<\/a> about the new movie!<\/p>\n <\/span><\/p><\/div>\n
