Ilia<\/strong>, who is known as the \u201cQuad God,\u201d is the first and only skater to successfully land a fully rotated axel in an international competition.<\/p>\nHe went on to say that his mistakes came from his mental state as he stepped out onto the ice, despite the fact that he\u2019d been preparing all season and felt confident in his program.<\/p>\n
\u201cFinally experiencing that Olympic atmosphere\u2014it\u2019s crazy. It\u2019s not like any other competition,\u201d Ilia<\/strong> explained. \u201cIt\u2019s really different.\u201d<\/p>\nHe continued, \u201cI\u2019m still so grateful that I was able to put in this work and effort to get to where I am. But of course, that was not the skate that I wanted.\u201d<\/p>\n
For now, Ilia<\/strong> \u2013 who already won gold in the figure skating event \u2013 said that he\u2019s still processing \u201cwhat just happened, and while he had \u201cno words,\u201d he\u2019s looking to the future.<\/p>\n\u201cObviously I should take the stuff that I learned from here and really just improve it,\u201d he said, \u201cor use it to my knowledge to see what I can do in the future for this to not happen.\u201d<\/p>\n
