She doesn\u2019t smell snow! Melissa McCarthy<\/strong><\/a> starred on Gilmore Girls<\/em><\/a> for seven seasons \u2014 but filming the beloved show wasn\u2019t always an easy feat.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cSometimes we were, like, crammed into small things with coats on but it was actually like 112 degrees in Burbank, [California]. And we were like, \u2018Brrr, Connecticut!\u2019\u201d McCarthy, 52, told Entertainment Weekly<\/em> <\/a>in an interview published on Monday, June 12. \u201c<\/span>And I was like, \u2018Are we explaining why I have Malaria and why I\u2019m in a full flop sweat?\u2019\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Gilmore Girls<\/em>, which aired on The WB (and later The CW) from 2000 to 2007, followed mother-daughter duo Lorelai (Lauren Graham<\/strong><\/a>) and Rory Gilmore (Alexis Bledel<\/strong><\/a>) as they navigated life in their small quirky town of Stars Hollow, Connecticut. While the show was based up north, it filmed in sunny \u2014 and hot \u2013 California.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWhen we did our first poster, someone passed out,\u201d the Little Mermaid<\/em> star continued. \u201cLike, just [passed] out cold because we were all in coats and trying to look blustery and we were just sweating in weird places<\/a> and [they were] like, \u2018Look cold!\u2019\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n McCarthy, for her part, portrayed chef Sookie St. James on the multigenerational drama \u2014 Lorelai\u2019s best friend and business partner.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n While McCarthy starred on all seven seasons of the original series, fans speculated that the Emmy winner might not make a return for the 2016 Netflix revival after claiming she hadn\u2019t been asked<\/a> to reprise her role.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThanks for the invite, but sadly no one asked me or Sookie to come back to Stars Hollow,\u201d the Mike & Molly <\/i>alum <\/span>wrote via Twitter in February 2016 after a fan asked her to \u201ccome back\u201d to Stars Hollow. \u201cWish them all the best!!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Gilmore Girls<\/em> creator Amy Sherman-Palladino<\/strong>, meanwhile, told TV Line<\/em> <\/a>earlier that month that she had reached out to McCarthy\u2019s team \u2014 but hadn\u2019t heard anything back.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cShe\u2019s really f\u2013king busy. But the thing I have said [to her team] is, \u2018Look, if Melissa is available and has an afternoon free, I\u2019ll write her a scene,\u201d the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel<\/em> <\/a>writer explained. \u201cMelissa was one of us. If she has a spare moment to run over [to the set] \u2014 even if for just a cameo \u2014 we would be totally game,\u201d she continued. \u201cAnd if it\u2019s a last-minute thing, I would write her in and we would figure it out. That\u2019s the way we left it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Two months later, however, the Boss<\/em> star announced that she would make an appearance somewhere in the four 90-minute episodes \u2014 and opened up to Us Weekly<\/em> about the emotional experience of returning<\/a> to set after so many years.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI went back and visited about two weeks ago and saw the sets again and everybody on them and it just felt \u2014 oh, my God, I get so sentimental. It felt like the greatest idea in the world<\/a>. It was just lovely. It was just lovely,\u201d she gushed at the time. \u201cThere was the longest time when it was just not going to work out, schedule-wise, and then once we decided, like, \u2018Is there any possible way?\u2019 Something big fell out for me [and] something changed for them.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n While Sookie only made a brief appearance in the \u201cFall\u201d episode<\/a> of the revival \u2014 the final of the four installments \u2014 to make Lorelai and Luke\u2019s (Scott Patterson<\/strong><\/a>) wedding cake, McCarthy gave an update on Monday about where she thinks her character would be today.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cShe has like, 42 kids. I think they\u2019re growing weed. I think her and [her husband] Jackson, [portrayed by Jackson Douglas<\/strong><\/a>]<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u2014 she still cooks, but I think [they do] edibles,\u201d she quipped to EW. \u201cI think they run a very nice little mom-and-pop business with their 13 kids and she makes delicious edibles.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
