Michelle Yeoh<\/strong><\/a> is breaking her silence after Wicked: For Good<\/em> did not receive a nomination at the 2026 Oscars<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m not surprised. I am in shock!\u201d the actress, 63, said in an interview with Variety<\/em><\/a> published on Thursday, February 12. \u201cI really am.\u201d<\/p>\n Yeoh, who starred in both Wicked<\/em> films as Madame Morrible, acknowledged that while the first film was praised by the critics, the sequel deserved its flowers as well.<\/p>\n \u201cI think sometimes the problem is that people think, \u2018Oh, you already got so much with the first one, let other people have a chance.\u2019 But then it feels like, \u2018No, come on!\u2019 It\u2019s such a beautiful, well-made movie,\u201d she continued. \u201cPaul<\/strong> [Tazewell<\/strong>] for costume design, hair and makeup. If you compare it [with contenders this year] it should be there.\u201d<\/p>\n Yeoh added that director Jon M. Chu<\/strong> and set designer Alice Brooks<\/strong> deserved to be nominated for their work on Wicked: For Good.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s not the replica of the first one. It\u2019s more elaborate and there are many more new destinations in Wicked: For Good<\/em>,\u201d she explained. \u201cSo I was truly, truly very disappointed.\u201d<\/p>\n Last year, Wicked<\/em> \u2014 which is based on the hit Broadway musical \u2014 received a whopping 10 nominations at the 2025 Academy Awards including Best Picture and nods for Cynthia Erivo<\/strong> and Ariana Grande<\/strong> for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress, respectively. The movie musical ended up taking home two Oscars<\/a> for Best Costume Design and Best Production Design.<\/p>\n One year after Wicked<\/em>\u2019s release, the tale came to a conclusion. In addition to following the play\u2019s second act, there were two new original songs added to the film. Erivo, 39, performed the ballad \u201cNo Place Like Home\u201d while Grande, 32, sang \u201cGirl in the Bubble.\u201d While fans praised Wicked: For Good,<\/em> it received less love from the critics. The film received 66 percent on Rotten Tomatoes while its first counterpart had a score of 88 percent.<\/p>\n When the Oscars nominations were announced earlier this year, Wicked: For Good<\/em> was surprisingly excluded from the list. Best Picture nominees included Bugonia, Frankenstein, Hamnet, Marty Supreme, One Battle After Another, The Secret Agent, Sentimental Value, Sinners, F1<\/em> and Train Dreams<\/em>. Fans took to social media to express their frustration over the Wicked: For Good<\/em>\u2019s snub especially when Brad Pitt<\/strong>\u2019s blockbuster F1<\/em> was included instead.<\/p>\n \u201cI can\u2019t believe F1 got nominated but not wicked??????? Crazy work,\u201d one user wrote via X, while another replied, \u201cWicked for good not being nominated for any oscar is insane (and the f1 movie getting multiple is beyond absurd).\u201d<\/p>\n
