New details are emerging after Team USA\u2019s Lindsey Vonn<\/strong><\/a> crashed at the 2026 Winter Olympics.<\/a><\/p>\n

Vonn, 41, is being \u201ctreated by a multidisciplinary team\u201d and \u201cunderwent an orthopedic operation to stabilize a fracture reported in her left leg,\u201d the Ca\u2019 Foncello hospital said in a statement on Sunday, February 8, according to the Associated Press.<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n

The U.S. Ski Team said Vonn was \u201cin stable condition and in good hands with a team of American and Italian physicians.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019ll be OK, but it\u2019s going to be a bit of a process,\u201d Anouk Patty<\/strong>, chief of sport for U.S. Ski and Snowboard said, according to the outlet. \u201cThis sport\u2019s brutal and people need to remember when they\u2019re watching (that) these athletes are throwing themselves down a mountain and going really, really fast.\u201d<\/p>\n

An Italian hospital said Vonn \u201cunderwent an orthopedic operation to stabilize a fracture reported in her left leg\u201d on Sunday and that she was being \u201ctreated by a multidisciplinary team.\u201d \u201cShe\u2019ll be OK, but it\u2019s [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

News broke on Sunday that Vonn crashed just 13 seconds into her women\u2019s downhill run<\/a>. Vonn could be heard screaming while being attended to by the medical staff on the Olympia delle Tofane course in Cortina d\u2019Ampezzo, Italy.<\/p>\n

Vonn was ultimately airlifted off of the course by a helicopter. A photo captured by Associated Press<\/em> photographer Jacquelyn Martin<\/strong> showed Vonn\u2019s right ski pole clipping a gate, which led to the crash.<\/p>\n

Nine days earlier, Vonn tore her ACL<\/a> during a World Cup Race in Crans-Montana, Switzerland. Despite the injury, Vonn decided to see her Olympic comeback through. (Vonn announced her return to the sport in November 2024.)<\/p>\n

This was obviously incredibly hard news to receive one week before the Olympics. I really appreciate everyone giving me time and space to process what happened and find a way forward.\u201d<\/p>\n
