Fire Country<\/em><\/a> isn\u2019t the only CBS show currently going through a surprising showrunner change.<\/a><\/p>\n

News broke in January 2026 that showrunner Tia Napolitano<\/strong> was leaving after multiple<\/a> onscreen departures.<\/p>\n

\u201cTia has been instrumental in helping both build and steer Fire Country, which not only became a top series, but is also the foundation of a growing universe,\u201d CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach and CBS Studios President David Stapf said in a joint statement. \u201cWe\u2019re grateful for all her contributions and tireless work, and look forward to collaborating with her on future projects.\u201d<\/p>\n

Napolitano was with the show since its 2022 premiere on CBS. Before her exit, Napolitano spoke exclusively to Us Weekly<\/em> about what fans could expect from the remainder of the fourth season.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201c[You should] be worried. We\u2019ve got Bode and Tyler in a fire shelter in the middle of a blaze. Those things are built for one, there\u2019s two lives in there,\u201d Napolitano shared in December 2025. \u201cAnd we\u2019ve got Jake and his brother over the side of a cliff. You see how many times that vehicle goes over and over. We see heads hit hard surfaces.\u201d<\/p>\n

Napolitano teased that \u201cthose are not easy things to come back\u201d from, adding, \u201cWe\u2019ll watch our people fight to get out of there.\u201d She also revealed there was a \u201chuge twist\u201d coming in the midseason premiere.<\/p>\n

The showrunner change came after<\/a> budget cuts led to Billy Burke<\/strong> and Stephanie Arcila<\/strong>\u2018s exits. Elsewhere at the network, NCIS<\/em>\u2018 prequel series NCIS: Origins<\/em> and FBI<\/em> spinoff CIA<\/em> also faced some shakeups behind the scenes.<\/p>\n

Napolitano released a statement in January 2026, which read, \u201cI am beyond proud of the past four seasons of Fire Country. All of my gratitude to our cast, crew, writers, producers, fans, and of course CBS and CBS Studios. It\u2019s been a beautiful ride!\u201d<\/p>\n

Multiple outlets including Deadline<\/em> reported that a replacement for Napolitano hasn\u2019t been found yet.<\/a><\/p>\n

It was confirmed in January 2026<\/a> that co-showrunner Gina Lucita Monreal<\/strong> is departing from the show at the end of season 2. David J. North<\/strong> will remain and will serve as sole showrunner in her absence.<\/p>\n

Monreal released her own statement about the surprise exit. \u201cIt\u2019s been the biggest honor of my career to write NCIS: Origin\u2019 alongside my incredible co-showrunner and friend David North,\u201d she wrote. \u201cI want to thank Amy Reisenbach, David Stapf, and everyone at CBS Network and Studio for their support.\u201d<\/p>\n
