The 22-year-old pop star – who was born in Calgary, Canada – recently filmed an ad that promoted Team USA’s 2026 Winter Olympics line-up, but Tate has now taken to social media to insist that her allegiances still lie with Canada.<\/p>\n
Alongside a childhood photo of herself holding up a Canadian flag, Tate wrote on Instagram: “\u2026 Y\u2019all know I\u2019m Canada down (sic)”<\/p>\n
Tate’s advert for NBC Sports aired earlier this month. In the commercial, she’s seen promoting Team USA while talking to a snowy owl.<\/p>\n
Tate says: “I\u2019m trying to get to Milan for an amazing Opening Ceremony and meet Team USA. It\u2019s the weekend with America\u2019s best skating for gold and Lindsey Vonn\u2019s epic comeback.”<\/p>\n
\nThe advert was aired shortly after Tate admitted that she’s previously felt overwhelmed by the scrutiny she’s faced.<\/p>\n
\nThe pop star split from The Kid Laroi in July after about a year of dating, and Tate admitted that she struggled to cope with the attention that subsequently came her way.<\/p>\n
\nShe told Rolling Stone magazine: “It was really scary and overwhelming, I would never talk that way, even about my friends\u2019 lives. I didn\u2019t realise how much it would affect me, the public knowing my private life – because no one knows the full story of anything, ever.<\/p>\n
\n“I also hate people painting a situation that\u2019s worse than it is. But what I\u2019ve had to realise is that he\u2019s going to write songs and I\u2019m going to write songs, and that\u2019s our way of expressing ourselves. That\u2019s our art, that\u2019s our job. And once it\u2019s out there, it\u2019s not mine anymore.”<\/p>\n
\nTate admitted that fame and attention had taken a toll on her over the last 12 months.<\/p>\n
\nThe singer – who has enjoyed a meteoric rise over recent years – said: “I don\u2019t even recognise that person. I feel I\u2019ve aged 10 years in the past year.”<\/p>\n
