Lights are bright on Broadway! When it comes to bringing a new musical to the Great White Way<\/a>, producers find inspiration in all sorts of places \u2014 including beloved movies<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cI mean, I\u2019ll probably come back here, like, five more times before we actually come to Broadway, but it\u2019s a real thing now,\u201d\u00a0Mean Girls<\/a>\u00a0<\/i>scribe Tina Fey<\/strong><\/a> teased of the musical treatment of her \u201800s flick during a May 2017 appearance on\u00a0<\/a>The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon<\/a>.\u00a0<\/i>\u201cIt\u2019s so cool. It\u2019s so fun because \u2014 you can sing \u2014 but I\u2019ve been in stuff that\u2019s like movie musicals, whatever, a little bit.\u201d<\/p>\n She added: \u201cThe secret with movie musicals is you can secretly suck and be a star. But to do things on stage? Like, these kids are so talented<\/a>! We have the cast now. We\u2019ve been rehearsing for about a month. There\u2019s a bunch of baby Timberlakes. Everyone can do everything! They just sing so loud and they dance so hard.\u201d<\/p>\n Mean Girls: The Musical\u00a0<\/i>ran from April 2018 to March 2020, originally starring Erika Henningsen<\/strong><\/a>, Taylor Louderman<\/strong><\/a>,\u00a0Emily in Paris<\/a><\/i>\u2019 Ashley Park<\/strong><\/a>, Barrett Wilbert Weed<\/strong>, Grey Henson<\/strong>, Kyle Selig<\/strong> and Kate Rockwell<\/strong>.<\/p>\n \u201cThe greatest thing about bringing this musical to life is that our creative team didn\u2019t say, \u2018Can you just recreate the iconic film performance?\u2019 We could never hope to,\u201d Henningsen, who played Lindsay Lohan<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s role of Cady Heron<\/a> on stage, exclusively told\u00a0Us Weekly\u00a0<\/i>in April 2018<\/a>. \u201cI could never deliver the performance that Lindsay did. \u2026\u00a0It has been really special being able to recreate these characters for a musical and in this current time period.\u201d<\/p>\n She continued: \u201cI know Lindsay Lohan wants to come see the show. I hope she does. I don\u2019t want to know about it [if she\u2019s in the audience] because I will get so nervous.\u201d<\/p>\n Mean Girls: The Musical\u00a0<\/i>\u2014 which is also set to be released as a filmed adaptation \u2014 is hardly the only movie that has served as inspiration for the Broadway stage<\/a>. In April 2016, Sara Bareilles<\/strong><\/a>\u2019 version of\u00a0Waitress\u00a0<\/i>debuted at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre in New York City. Starring Jessie Mueller<\/strong> as the original Jenna, the \u201cBrave\u201d singer reinvigorated the Keri Russell<\/strong><\/a>-led film with a slate of Tony Award-nominated songs<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cWe want everyone in the world to come see the show. We\u2019re so proud of it,\u201d Bareilles \u2014 who eventually played the show\u2019s titular role in both Broadway and West End runs \u2014 exclusively told\u00a0Us\u00a0<\/i>in February 2019<\/a>. \u201cI just think\u00a0Waitress\u00a0<\/i>is comfort food. It\u2019s got so much heart and it\u2019s got so much humor. It\u2019s just a really beautiful.
