Dove Cameron is engaged to Damiano David<\/p>\n
The 30-year-old star first met Damiano David at the MTV VMAs back in 2022 – but it took another year before they started dating.<\/p>\n
Dove said on the Call Her Daddy podcast: “I was like, \u2018This guy f****** hates me.\u2019 I was gonna go on with my night. I met a bunch of people. Everybody’s like, \u2018Congrats.\u2019 I didn’t think about it.<\/p>\n
“Later I learned he was just, like, in a really bad place. It had nothing to do with me. But I took it personally, and I was like, ‘F****** weird. Alright, bye.'”<\/p>\n
Despite this, Dove and Damiano eventually started dating after meeting again at the 2023 VMAs.<\/p>\n
\nShe said: “We had a reason to talk. He was single, and I was single, and he was in a better place and I was in a better place.<\/p>\n
\n“I was like, ‘Yeah, I remember you. Like, you’re so different now.’ He was so friendly. And then he was like, ‘Do you wanna come to our show at Madison Square Garden?’ And I was like, ‘Yeah.’ And then we just started dating, and now we’re engaged. Like, it’s so, so innocent and simple.”<\/p>\n
\nDove admits that she was “celibate” and “depressed” before they started dating.<\/p>\n
\nThe singer – who announced her engagement to Damiano in January – said: “If I had met him before I did in a way where he was interested in me and there was an opportunity for us to be dating, I would not have been ready because I was so depressed. I was, like, celibate.<\/p>\n
\n“I was like, \u2018Don’t touch me, don’t look at me, don’t come close to me, I’m not leaving my house.\u2019 I was like dark night of the soul for a year.”<\/p>\n
\nHowever, Dove’s attitude changed ahead of the 2023 VMAs.<\/p>\n
\nShe said: “I literally texted my friends and I was like, \u2018I think I’m ready to date.\u2019 One week later, he was like, \u2018Nice to meet you.'”<\/p>\n
