And it\u2019s a good thing that they did it now, because I have good genes and I wouldn\u2019t have been here that much longer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been in this business for 60 f\u2013king years, but I just want to tell you, never give up on your dream, no matter what happens. Live it, be it, and if it\u2019s not happening now, it will happen soon.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At that point, Cher began to wrap things up.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s all I have to say,\u201d she concluded, while looking around the stage in apparent confusion. \u201cI guess I\u2019m supposed to walk off now. Thankfully, host Trevor Noah was able to call her back to the stage in time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCher, before you go, could we get you to announce the nominees?\u201d Noah shouted as she walked off stage. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI could do it, but it\u2019s not the same. I don\u2019t have the track record. Welcome back Cher, everybody.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Crisis averted. Understandable.<\/p>\n<p>But then the situation deteriorated further when Cher announced that the winner was Luther Vandross.<\/p>\n<p>Vandross, of course, passed away in 2005, and Record of the Year was actually won by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehollywoodgossip.com\/2025\/04\/kendrick-lamar-net-worth-how-rich-is-the-not-like-us-rapper-ahead-of-his-super-bowl-performance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Kendrick Lamar<\/a> for his song \u201cLuther.\u201d Whoops.<\/p>\n<p>Thankfully, the recipients were able to find the humor in the situation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFirst and foremost,\u201d producer Sounwave said while accepting the award, \u201clet\u2019s give a shout out to the late great Luther Vandross.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"GRAMMYs: Cher Throws 2026 Show Into CHAOS With Luther Vandross &#039;Win&#039; After Walk-Off\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/EqonbPHXMW4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Any single one of those flubs could have happened to anyone. But the fact that so many of them took place in such rapid succession created concern among some viewers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCher needs to be checked for earlier dementia.
