Netflix is taking a deep dive into the legacy and controversy of <\/span>America\u2019s Next Top Model<\/span><\/i> with a new documentary titled <\/span>Reality Check: Inside America\u2019s Next Top Model<\/span><\/i>, premiering February 16.<\/span><\/p>\n Tyra Banks<\/b>, who hosted the long-running competition series for its first 22 seasons, is one of the central voices in the film.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n In a trailer released January\u00a0 26, the supermodel and TV host acknowledges she\u2019s ready to address the conversation surrounding the show. \u201cI haven\u2019t really said much,\u201d the 52-year-old says, \u201c<\/span>but now it\u2019s time<\/span><\/a>.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Banks reflects on her original intentions for the series, which ran for 24 seasons, explaining that she set out to challenge the fashion industry\u2019s narrow standards. However, she also admits that in trying to meet audience expectations, things sometimes went too far. \u201cI knew I went too far,\u201d Tyra concedes. \u201cIt was very very intense, but you guys were demanding it, so we kept pushing. More and more and more.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n The documentary<\/span><\/a> also features several familiar faces from the show\u2019s early years, including longtime judges <\/span>J. Alexander<\/b> and <\/span>Nigel Barker<\/b>, as well as creative director<\/span> Jay Manuel<\/b>. Barker suggests there were fractures behind the scenes, saying at one point that they \u201cfelt betrayed\u201d by Banks.<\/span><\/p>\n Manuel, who worked closely with Tyra throughout the series, offers a candid perspective in the trailer. \u201cI realized Tyra would do anything for the success of her show,\u201d he says. \u201cYou want to talk about being slapped across the face and then slapped right back?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
