Teyana Taylor has received advice from Beyonce<\/p>\n

The 35-year-old star has known Beyonce<\/a>, 44, since she was a teenager, and Teyana has always been happy to receive advice from her showbiz pal.<\/p>\n

Speaking to People, Teyana recalled being told: “Invest in yourself. Don’t take it personal. This is a business.”<\/p>\n

The singer choreographed the video for Beyonce<\/a>‘s 2006 single Ring the Alarm – but Teyana admits that she didn’t understand the music business during her younger years.<\/p>\n

She shared: “I definitely came in the business at a time where I went into everything with my heart, and I didn’t understand certain things, and I would go to her and she’s just like, ‘Don’t take it personal.’ My mom would tell me the same thing.”<\/p>\n

\nTeyana took Beyonce’s advice with her for “the long haul because I didn’t know that certain things would be isolating where you would feel like, ‘Oh s***, in order for it to be done the way I see it in my head, I’m going to have to do this s*** myself”.<\/p>\n

\nMeanwhile, in December, Teyana revealed that she was focused on acting because she felt “claustrophobic in the music space”.<\/p>\n

\nThe movie star – who has enjoyed success as a musician and as an actress – told Variety: “Honestly, I\u2019ve just always been a character. <\/p>\n

\n“As I got older, kids would play and I would watch movies \u2014 some, probably, I should not have been watching. I\u2019ve always been into how an actor can emote. I always wanted to be Julia Roberts or Kate Winslet. <\/p>\n

\n“As I got into music, everything else was put to a back burner. I didn\u2019t get the opportunity to go to classes and study it the way I would\u2019ve liked to. Once I started to feel claustrophobic in the music space, I was like, I need to pour into other things that I love.”<\/p>\n
